Explorer Arrives Down Under (Fremantle) on 13/11

Recommended Posts

We just got off yesterday and were very disappointed!

Average food, boring entertainment and way too many smoking areas.

The ship is looking very old and the layout of the ship makes it feel more like a hotel at sea rather than a ship.

I guess we were expecting WOW and we found we had "so-so".

Sorry to hear that. Are booked on another one any time soon?

We are booked Sydney - NZ cruise in March but that too has to be changed due to the same work changes. Just waiting for the new 1016 roster to come out to make new bookings

I'm sorry you had a bad experience. We love the Voyager class of ship having cruised on them often. I do have to agree that the food on the longer cruises leaves a lot to be desired and quality has dropped over the past few years across the board.

I'm surprised at the smoking complaint though. I'm really allergic (anaphylaxis attacks) to cigarette smoke and haven't really had issues on this class of ship. It means avoiding one side of the pool deck and the casino but I can deal with that. Where else were they smoking?

Thats the way of it these days......:D

Cruise ships have become Resort Hotels that simply float from one port to another.

It was all along the starboard sides on all open decks. Really disgusting really. The smoke from the casino permeated both bars near by. Icky!

Yuk. Will it remain like this while based in Australia though?

On the other Royal ships I've been on it wasn't too bad really, and no smoking in the casino at all.

So what are we talking about? Rust on the hull? Needs a fresh coat of paint?

Metal strips on ship lifted up, balcony railings loose, lift buttons falling off. They have seemed to have fancied up the furnishings but forgotten about the ship. Anyway I can see that you are RCL cruiser so you will have a great time anyway. I guess we were just expecting more because of all the "wow" we had been reading about.

The smoking policy is what is worrying me, I hope they stop the smoking in the casino and such or they will not getting any of my money that way.

Mic - Whilest the ships are sailing here in Aus, there's no smoking in the casino.

There are several designated smoking areas .. cant tell you where tho as I'm not a smoker. I do know that one side of the outdoor deck on deck 4 is one of the places (could be starboard side) but other than that I have no idea.

Won't the casino still sink though eg smoke in the carpet etc??

They seem to do a really good job cleaning the carpets and furnishings in the Casino. I have to admit to going and playing the pokies a few times just after we have left ports, while most are at dinner and I couldn't smell anything. I usually get 10 minutes in before the smokers start.

I didn't know there was a no smoking policy in the Casino in Australia. We haven't yet been on a cruise here yet but I love that policy.

As to the smoking areas, the area mentioned are pretty standard on all the cruises we have been on in the US, Europe and Middle East.

Most likely but at least it is not going to get all over me (hair and clothes).
