Pants Required?

Recommended Posts

Jeez guys, to each his own and if the rules allow, wear the shorts. Do not make or change the rules because they do not fit YOUR agenda. Why does anyone care what the next person is wearing? I watch my tablemates and my food, just in case someone likes my plateful of food. Do not care if someone wears a tutu, kilt or bikini. Well, I am all for the bikini, but might have to wear a bib. Seriously, we are on a vacation to relax, you no like what the ship allows, stay home.

I'm all good with casual, but unless you lost your luggage, shorts at dinner in the MDR is for amateurs.

On the contraire, mon ami! dressing up in a cruise more than you expressly *have to* is a puerile mistake. Just came back from a 12-nighter in the Getaway, loved wearing my bermuda shorts everywhere. No one batted an eyelash, nor should they.

I really don't care what anyone wears but is it such a torture for a grown man to wear long pants to dinner while on a cruise ship, in vacation? Just because something is permitted it isn't always the best choice. :)

Wear what you want but consider maybe being all grown up for the week or so you are on the ship,,,,, maybe? :D

What are you on about? There's a reason NCL has the Freestyle philosophy. They make it clear they want you to 'come as you are' with none of the formalities and ceremony of old time cruising. If wearing shorts and t-shirt to an MDR is the measure of a man or a woman, you need to check your calendar.

I just simply wear my Kilt and be done with it.

The maître-d of the Le Bistro on the NCL STAR brought my table a bottle of

wine - he was so impressed.

On cruises to Bermuda I have heard (read) that Bermuda Shorts are OK in all

restaurants - wouldn't want to offend anyone there - comments from those

that have cruised Bermuda ? Truth or Fiction or something out of the triangle ?

Amateur? No way' date=' if you wear a truly ugly pair of Bermudas:

But, only if you pair it with the proper golf beanie:

My husband is 63 years old , a retired FDNY officer, surviving/battling two World Trade Center caused cancers , certainly a grown man and yet he chose to wear shorts to the dining room once and the dinner buffet twice. I don't think he offended anyone, nor would we care. Just a thought a neighbor of ours has MUltiple sclerosis , takes a med that drives up his body temp...he wears shorts every day even in the cold New York winters ..I suggest you stick to the more formal cruise lines that cater to the grown ups

Now that did it - "THAT HAT" if you can call it that !

Where is me claymore - OFF WITH HIS HEAD !

Oops didn't see that he was part of the theater stage act -

"How to make a fool out of yourself without actually trying" !

Relax folks this is not your father's cruise line where even 4th

class passengers have to dress to the nines to dine in the buffet !

I don't think that you will find a large cruise line like NCL when

it comes to a liberal dress code in dining on the ship. Carnival

maybe close but certainly not with the stuffed shirt lines HAL

Princess and RCL Cunard etc. Ships (cruise lines) with Formal

nights just steer clear of the Captain in his Dress Whites and

the photo opt paparazzi gauntlet - there are others places to eat

with less fanfare and if you want to be indecent use Room Service

and entertain the wait staff.

So whatever you do 'DO NOT ORDER A POLISH SAUGAGE (hot dog)'

in Le Bistro least the staff makes you walk the plank into the

shark filled main swimming hole in front of a SRO crowd !

Now where was the guy with the strange balmoral hat that got all

this started - Oh he was being escorted off the ship by the MDR

maitre-d with all the chief cooks and bottle washers with meat

cleavers in salute !

Enjoy your meal sir and if I can make it more pleasant and enjoyable

I am at your service - he would give you a tip of his hat (wait for it)

'EXCEPT HE IS NOT WEARING ONE' get the message !

So much for cruise etiquette 101- when is the next faux pas act ?
