rideev Posted November 15, 2015 #1 Share Posted November 15, 2015 Does Princess hold Texas Hold'em tourneys on board? If so, what are the details. Thanks,
monakayk Posted November 15, 2015 #2 Share Posted November 15, 2015 (edited) My DH is a poker player and he has always been able to attend poker tournaments on all our PCL cruises, expect for the last one we took on the Crown Princess in Oct.. None were offered. He was not sure why. Possibly because there were not enough folks signed up for it. It is still a mystery. However, most tournaments are held on sea days, since they last the longest. The dates/times will be post in the Princess Patter. You should check the patter out the night before....so you can sign up early to be able to get in. Most tournaments my DH have attended have always filled up fast. So he would go 1st thing the morning of the tournament to the casino to sign up. Wish you good luck in winning. :D Edited November 15, 2015 by monakayk

pklein9747 Posted November 22, 2015 #5 Share Posted November 22, 2015 Just got off a 10-day Southern Caribbean on the Royal. Hubby and friend played Texas Hold'Em but only $1/$2 games. Casino staff told them they no longer offer tournaments. Don't know why.
Rare azbirdmom Posted November 22, 2015 #6 Share Posted November 22, 2015 There weren't any poker tournaments on the three Princess cruises we have been on this year, just cash games ($1/$2 no limit). On the first two cruises (Emerald and Star), the host told us that the demand wasn't there for tournaments so they aren't running them. On the last cruise (Royal), we were told that the PokerPro machine wasn't programmed for tournaments. They did still have slot and Blackjack tournaments, but it seems like poker tournaments are no longer offered.
Larry613 Posted November 22, 2015 #7 Share Posted November 22, 2015 I suspect the reason they no longer offer tournament play is because they can't make enough money off that format. They now offer only ring games with "automatic" dealing. On the Crown Princess 28-day cruise which ended on Nov. 15, the only game offered was a $1-$3 no-limit with a 15% rake up to a total of $55/hand. No rake was taken on hands with less than three players. Although I enjoy Texas Hold 'Em, this rake struck me as excessive, so I didn't play. If that rake amount is accurate, they've just lost my action. Getting as bad as NCL with those numbers. Grey
Steelers36 Posted November 24, 2015 #9 Share Posted November 24, 2015 Princess has ceased holding Poker Tournaments at the PokerPro tables. They still hold BJ tournaments and Slot tournaments. PokerPro is now just the $1/$2 No Limit cash games. It was probably a money thing - tieing up the table for the length of the tournament. The rake is 15% to $8 max - not $55. There is no rake when down to head to head. Now I am hesitant on the rake when three players.
WISH84 Posted November 24, 2015 #10 Share Posted November 24, 2015 (edited) Princess has ceased holding Poker Tournaments at the PokerPro tables. They still hold BJ tournaments and Slot tournaments. And I can't help but think the lack of interest in a tournament is also simply because no "avid" Texas Hold'em player really wants a computer to deal the cards. I've played in many tournaments both local and in Vegas although I'm by no means a "shark" however when I do sit at the PokerPro table on a ship I just expect to lose. Yes, I have won.. but not so much that it made my night. I still want a human to deal my cards. Guess I'm old school. It was probably a money thing - tieing up the table for the length of the tournament.. On the Emerald Princess a while back they would occasionally hold tournaments. They were always full and several people on the wait list. We would constantly ask for more tournies and were told no, its 1-2 no limit now. The table sat empty the entire time. I could never understand that. Edited November 25, 2015 by OutSyder
Mike_DeA Posted December 1, 2015 #13 Share Posted December 1, 2015 I was on the Emerald last week. There was no rake until there were 4 players or more in the game. Signage stated such, along with the rake of 15% up to $8.
missdenise Posted December 25, 2015 #14 Share Posted December 25, 2015 I just saw this thread and I am quite disappointed. On our last Princess cruise, tournaments were held and there was always a wait list since they could only have 10 players at their automated table. $1/ $2 no limit was also offered with very poor participation. I too believe it is not about the lack of interest but the lack of income that Princess gets from the tourneys. They make much more with a table game. I enjoy a tournament each cruise and will have to keep that in mind since RCCL and NCL both offer a few each cruise. I guess I will be bringing my own chips and have a private tourney with our group of travelers.
