I see where you can pre purchase the drink package on Princess web site. But if you wait till you board the ship to do so, where and how soon can you purchase?? I know on CCL as soon as you board the ship you can purchase the package at the atrium bar, casino bar or at a table set up specifically for this in the lobby/atrium. All responses appreciated. [emoji484][emoji485][emoji483][emoji41][emoji267] 25 days and counting!!!

There will be several tables set up selling it and you can purchase it at just about every bar you visit. They only sell them the first two days and if you wait until day two to purchase it, they don't go back and pro-rate any bar tab you've built up from day one.

So, best to purchase it as soon as you get on board or in advance.

The Princess AIBP is much better than CCL. Only one person can purchase it (not the entire cabin as with Carnival).. no "drink maximum and I believe the Princess AIBP includes much more than Carnivals (but I've never used the CCL one...so I could be wrong).

We have this package in 18 days and for our Regal trip next December.

Happy Holiday's to you too!! :D

It does, your correct. With CCL your limited to 15 drinks in a 24 hr period and everyone in the room has to purchase if one does. There's a few things that Princess charges for that is included in CCL program. Looking forward to trying Princess out.

Just curious, what's included on CCLs program that is not on Princess. We've found Princess to have one of the most comprehensive packages for the price across the lines, but haven't sailed Carnival in a long while....

I know for sure the hot chocolate is free on CCL, if Cheers card isn't purchased. And did I read that there is a charge for tea on Princess? If so, it's free on CCL. You do have to pay for specialty coffees on CCL.

The Princess AIBP includes all drinks under $10. The only exception I have ever seen is it does not include Milkshakes on the Royal and Regal and I think that's only because those two ships don't have Milkshakes.

Regular coffees and teas are included on Princess sailings, just as on Carnival, and virtually all cruise lines. Specialty coffees and teas (lattes, mocha, chai, green tea, etc) are extra -and are covered by the AIBP. I've seen hot chocolate packets at the buffet drink stations on Princess, but Better hot chocolate, made with cream etc from the coffee shop is extra, and covered by the AIBP. Better still, no limits on Princess AIBP -it truly is unlimited, unlike Carnival's 15 per 24 hour limit.

It DOES sound better!!! Thank you for the info. As I said before, 25 days till we sail and am so looking forward to cruising Princess. We've cruised Carnival 22 times and we think it might be time for a chance to try other cruise lines. I will hit my Diamond status in June of next year along with my 25 milestone. Maybe it's time to see what else there is out there. Thank you again..[emoji41]

While the ship is in port at Fort Lauderdale Princess is supposed to charge the FL State sales tax on all bar purchases. We have no direct experience with the AIBP, but with the soda package if you purchase it at a bar your cruise card is swiped right then and the sales tax is automatically added. However, if you purchase from one of the tables that are set up in various locations on the ship then the sales slip is hand written. This hand written slip was then processed around 7pm in the evening and no sales tax was added. If you pre-purchase there is no sales tax.

I also believe sales tax is added at California and Texas ports, but have no first hand experience.

If you wait to purchase until after the ship leaves State waters then also no tax.

I tell my DH how much I love CC. So much info rolled into such a great site. I really appreciate all the info from the members, have only noticed a few trolls but that is on any cruise line page. Happy cruising!!

We purchased the Soda and More package in advance, in part for the convenience and in part to avoid the sales tax in Houston. Yes, Houston supposedly adds tax if purchased and processed while in port.

To confirm--normal tea is included with cruise fare on Princess. Specialty teas are included with the unlimited beverage package or the punch card that is good for specialty coffee, sundaes, and crepes. You can get a pot of tea with no punch provided you have the card or sticker to show.

When departing from Florida, we've never been charged Fla. taxes when buying our AIDP stickers on the ship before we depart.

This may be part of when the ship puts the charge into their system. If they write it on a paper and then enter it into the computer after the ship leaves port (in Florida) there is no reason for any state tax to be charged. My understanding is that with departures from Houston, the 3 hours or so in the waterway counts as being "in Texas" and is therefor subject to state taxes. Again, if the ship's personnel writes the charge on a paper and it enters the computer after the ship is at sea, no tax. If it enters the system while technically in Texas, they have to charge the tax.
