walkerk14 Posted November 24, 2015 #1 Share Posted November 24, 2015 Hi! Cruising on Sunday out of Ft Lauderdale. Wondering of any Canadians recently who have used the Princess offer to convert currency to CAD before posting to credit card. Are the rates competitive? Any help/insight would be greatly appreciated! :)
chrysalis Posted November 24, 2015 #2 Share Posted November 24, 2015 Have them charge your card in US$...your bank will convert at the better price.

Assuming you booked in canadian funds, the rate will be much better unless this is a last-minute booking.

Which is better than the $450 USD with current exchange rate plus bank currency conversion fees. Great idea!!!

FYI, you can do the same thing buying casino credit to get US cash easily. :)

beautifulbc2 Posted November 25, 2015 #7 Share Posted November 25, 2015 Goofy 559 Quick question, if I purchase casino credits, can I go to casino to withdraw US dollars ? and is there a charge to do that ? When I was on Celebrity Solstice, I could withdraw us cash in casino, but they charged us 5% to do that transaction. My friend who is sailing with me, her booking was in CAD $$, so she can purchase shipboard credit at the old Princess exchange rate of 1.20, new bookings are at 1.35 for Cdn currency, I was thinking of buying shipboard credit in her name and then get her to withdraw cash for me or transfer to me. My booking is in US dollars so unable to take advantage of purchasing sbc in my reservation. Any thoughts will be welcome,

Any thoughts will be welcome, Your friend can purchase casino credits on her booking (C$ at 20% exchange) and cash in the vouchers (which will be in her cabin) at the casino cashier and receive US$ and no fees involved. She can then do as she pleases with the cash....no gambling even required. Purchasing shipboard credit requires transferring some of that OBC to your casino account, gambling a little (eg. slots) then cashing out at the cashier. skf Posted November 25, 2015 #11 Share Posted November 25, 2015 Quick question, if I purchase casino credits, can I go to casino to withdraw US dollars ? and is there a charge to do that ? We did this one time and when we got back to the ship we were locked out of our casino access. Went to the desk and they explained that they do not appreciate being used as a bank and then let us back into our account. I do wish that the USD & CAD were closer in value, but what can you do?
