Stefanosthecruiselover Posted November 28, 2015 #1 Share Posted November 28, 2015 While on the Fantasy in March, we will be staying in Cozumel until 10pm. Consequently, we will miss our assigned seating at 6pm on that night, as we will enjoy our time at Paradise beach. What are our options for supper on that night? Will the Buffet be open? Can we still show up at the main dining room if we are about 1 hour late? Can we show up to the "your time dining" dining room? Thanks
mkam2821 Posted November 28, 2015 #2 Share Posted November 28, 2015 It would be TERRIBLY rude for you to show up an hour late. You certainly cannot really expect to be served, especially since there is another set of diners who will be coming for late seating and others at your table would probably be on dessert. The waiters can't be serving appetizers to you wihile trying to prepare for the next sitting. Nor can you just show up for any time dining if that's not what you've chosen. Check how late the buffet stays open and if you'll be returning too late then I suggest that you either eat ashore or order room service.

SadieN Posted November 28, 2015 #5 Share Posted November 28, 2015 Your options are deli, pizza, maybe the buffet (depending on time), room service or enjoy dinner onshore.

RuthlessBoss Posted November 28, 2015 #7 Share Posted November 28, 2015 Who stays on the beach after dark (in March that will be about 7pm)? I thought it to be strange too. The poster can come back 1 hour sooner if eating in the DR is that important to her/him.

Or as others mentioned, go to the wonderful buffet, the deli, or the pizza station. All will accommodate the OP's hunger at that hour. Or if they are really tired, room service is always available. Linerguy Posted November 28, 2015 #9 Share Posted November 28, 2015 Been to Paradise Beach three times. Great place, but every time we went it was only open until 5pm. Go early in the day, get your ya-ya's out, get back on the ship and have a nice dinner.
cb at sea Posted November 28, 2015 #10 Share Posted November 28, 2015 If you miss your assigned time..you missed it. Eat on land, or get room service later.
DebJ14 Posted November 28, 2015 #11 Share Posted November 28, 2015 (edited) The beach clubs will close at 5pm. I would return to the ship, shower and change and go into town for a nice dinner! That would beat the food on Lido or even the MDR for sure. Sometimes when cruise lines have a late call, like they do in Victoria BC, all dining is open seating that evening. Not sure what Carnival does, but it would make sense for them to have open seating that night, especially for those too cheap or too scared to eat dinner in Cozumel. BenjiRodney Posted November 28, 2015 #12 Share Posted November 28, 2015 Buffet, room service, deli, or eat on shore. It is rude to just show up 1 hour late and expect to be seated and served. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
okgirl Posted November 28, 2015 #13 Share Posted November 28, 2015 The buffet is open until about 9:30pm, deli until 11pm and pizza and room service are 24 hours. As others have said you can't show up an hour late and expect to be seated, nor can you use YTD. You might want to check and see if Paradise Beach is even open that late. They generally are use to the public leaving the beach (which isn't really a public beach) by 4:30ish. I wouldn't ever take one of the "Live" cruises. Almost nothing in town is open, none of the shops or casino on the ship are open, I'm not interested in going to the concert so there is almost nothing to do on the ship. I would research what is open in town and plan on having dinner on land.
_beachgirl_ Posted November 28, 2015 #14 Share Posted November 28, 2015 Might be a good night to check out room service on the ship! I've always found it to be awesome. Depending on the time you arrive back, you might also have the buffet as an option. And there's always pizza!! Either way, have a fun day at port. I wouldn't worry about the food too much. You won't go hungry as there is ALWAYS something to eat on the ship. :D

Don't know which cruise lines other than NCL that have open seating dining for anyone but as far as I know, Carnival has never done this unless ATD is selected. tigercat Posted November 28, 2015 #17 Share Posted November 28, 2015 There has been a couple of times when Carnival was in port late and there were excursion that went on later than usual that the dining room was open for anytime service. They usually don't do that but on occasion have done it. tigercat
Linerguy Posted November 28, 2015 #18 Share Posted November 28, 2015 This is all a moot point, because Paradise Beach closes at 5pm.
Stefanosthecruiselover Posted November 28, 2015 Author #19 Share Posted November 28, 2015 I was asking if it was ok, since I have seen a lot of people do it on previous cruises. Also, you guys all have your facts wrong. Paradise beach closes at 6pm, so 7pm ship time. Also, the sun goes down at 8pm ship time.
PAPERBKWRITER Posted November 28, 2015 #20 Share Posted November 28, 2015 For one night use the options mentioned and forget about MDR.
klfrodo Posted November 28, 2015 #21 Share Posted November 28, 2015 I was asking if it was ok, . Then the answer is No You cannot show up an hour late to your assigned dining time and expect to be seated. No, if you are assigned dining time in the MDR, change over and do ATD in the middle of the cruise. It's either/or not both. Yes, the Lido is open. LandlockedCruiser01 Posted November 28, 2015 #23 Share Posted November 28, 2015 (edited) There's also the Mexican fiesta buffet, served late at night, at 11:00-ish. On 4-day Key West/Cozumel cruises, it's served one time only, on Cozumel night. (If the ship was 2.0'ed, which Fantasy isn't, then there's no real food, just chips and salsa.) The Mexican fiesta food is pretty nice, about Chipotle-quality, but with some authentic Mexican dishes rarely found in the US. Eat a small meal in port or in the lido buffet, then save room for the fiesta. The only catch is that there'll be a lot of loud music and people dancing, some sober, some not :). Sauer-kraut Posted November 28, 2015 #24 Share Posted November 28, 2015 (edited) As a courtesy to your tablemates you should also inform your waiter the night before that you won't be dining the following evening. That way they aren't waiting to start ordering. Edited November 28, 2015 by Sauer-kraut
