One of the meats at Modernos was filet Mignon and as I tasted it, it kind of had a "livery" taste I thought to myself I wasn't crazy about that piece of meat. My friend said this morning she was talking to someone who said they had a filet at Cagneys and it had a "livery" taste and she said she noticed it to at Modernos the night we had it there. I had not mentioned it to anyone because I thought maybe I was crazy I guess I wasn't crazy after all. What kind of filet are they serving? The texture of liver is totally different to real meat - it is a sort of 'blotting paper' texture (Blerch!:eek:) A steak that as been matured for too long (AKA defrosted for too long) might taste like that - just a (not very nice) thought. I think everything just tastes much better there. We couldn't get a ressi as kids decided Saturday afternoon to do a specialty. So.....called Consi who also said everything was booked but would call restaurants and see what he could do. Choices I gave him were (in order of preference) Le Bistro, Cagney's, Moderno's. Between 5:30 and 7:30 p.m. since kids wanted to see Rock of Ages, which, BTW, they LOVED! AJ enjoyed Splash Academy during that time. You know which one we ended up with :) Took forever to get a waiter to fill water glasses and ask what drinks we wanted. Were halfway through eating before sides even came to table. Food is never really hot but we were lucky enough that when hubby and I said we like our meat rare that we always had rare meat afterwards. Best part, for me.....lamb chops and pineapple. My kids (for others who don't know, they're 26, 28, and 31) were not crazy with the desserts offered so asked if they could see Cagney's dessert menu and order off that that. Server had to ask permission but the answer was yes, so they had dessert from Cagney's. I still think NCL's desserts aren't the best. I didn't order dessert once. Cagney's and Rock of Ages were both enjoyable. I love getting the taste of vacation. The CTNs are the perfect way to get a break from this crazy city sometimes. I'll miss them. Spent a lot of time in the casino and came home a winner:D Had dinner at Cagney's on Saturday but the only reservation we could get was 10 PM (a little late for us) but the restaurant was full, even this late. Then when it is cooked, you are actually cooking(or steaming) the blood along with the muscle which could lead to a liver taste. Actual liver is made up of more blood than say filet mignon. Also eating beef cooked more done(ex med rare to med well) often leads to a liver taste. Sorry, It sounds kind of gross talking about blood. I just wanted to give some reasons for the taste. Interesting. I had the filet at Modernos and it was so disappointing. A little livery, gamey, tasting. Woman I chatted with later that night had it in Teppy and she said it was the same and that she told them it was the worst filet she'd ever eaten. It really had none of that yummy beef flavor. NYcruzzer Posted December 14, 2015 #39 Share Posted December 14, 2015 Glad I ordered the 16 oz. Boneless Ribeye. Very flavorful. Sucks that some of those who ordered the fillet didn't fair as well. Funny thing is the night before someone at my table got the steak in the Manhattan room. It was thicker, juicier, and just as flavorful as my Ribeye in Cagney's. As part of the USPH sanitation guidelines, the cruise lines are very careful about not allowing meat to sit in blood for any length of time. He said due to the high demand for reservations since everyone wanted to squeeze in a dinner at Cagney's in 2 nights they were staying open past 2am to accommodate desired reservations. Kudos to NCL for being accommodating, though I did truly feel badly for the already overworked staff. Hopefully some extra gratuities headed their way.
