daisy8869 Posted January 7, 2016 #1 Share Posted January 7, 2016 Hi, We will be in port at St. Thomas from 11am-7pm in a few weeks with the NCL Spirit. It looks like there are two other ships in port that day as well. I've never been to St. Thomas. Are there shops and places to see near the port, within walking distance of the ship? Any recommendations for must-see stops with a five year old boy? Thanks, Pam
Karysa Posted January 7, 2016 #2 Share Posted January 7, 2016 Do you know which port you are docking at? We even tendered out in the water in the town once. :)
OCruisers Posted January 7, 2016 #3 Share Posted January 7, 2016 Do you know which port you are docking at? We even tendered out in the water in the town once. :) Per above, you could dock at either Crown Bay or Havensight. Last year we actually tendered to town on Ruby Princess. Ms411 Posted January 7, 2016 #4 Share Posted January 7, 2016 If you're coming on Jan 19, 2016, the schedule has you at Crown Bay. There are shops there, but the only one with kid appeal is probably Del Sol. Nothing else at the dock for a child that age. Emerald Beach is a very short taxi ride from the port. Has restaurants, chair rentals, bathrooms, etc.
daisy8869 Posted January 12, 2016 Author #5 Share Posted January 12, 2016 I just checked and it looks like we will be docked at Crown Bay on Feb 2nd. Any tips on the closest beach...will it be Emerald Beach?
Ms411 Posted January 12, 2016 #6 Share Posted January 12, 2016 Yes, Emerald is the closest beach to Crown Bay. It's also known as Lindbergh Bay.
Rare geoherb Posted January 14, 2016 #7 Share Posted January 14, 2016 We've walked to Emerald Beach several times. It's about a mile and a half from Crown Bay.
O2B@Cagain Posted January 14, 2016 #8 Share Posted January 14, 2016 Actually the closest beach is Honeymoon on Water Island, but it takes a ferry ride to get there.
Livethelife Posted January 15, 2016 #9 Share Posted January 15, 2016 (edited) Actually the closest beach is Honeymoon on Water Island, but it takes a ferry ride to get there. Water Island is not necessarily the best choice for visitors wishing to maximize their beach time. Because the ferry is a small vessel (25 passengers) and runs on a schedule when it fills there are often passengers that have to wait for the next run. Depending on the time of day the next run can be an hour or more later. This also applies on the Water Island side when everyone from the cruise ship is trying to get back to St. Thomas at the same time. Travelers cannot assume they will make a specific ferry unless they leave the beach and get in line early. Wivian Posted March 5, 2016 #10 Share Posted March 5, 2016 How to get to that point in the picture? It's in the Crown Bay. I took a screenshot from a YouTube video [emoji1] I would love to have a picture like that of our great ship on September.
