hawkers Posted January 9, 2016 #27 Share Posted January 9, 2016 Do you buy this recently? By phoning or online? On Emerald Singapore to Sydney the rate is 0.80 through cruise personalizer! I bought it by phoning Princess a couple of months ago. My cruise personaliser is still showing 0.90 though, or rather AU $110 for what I think is US $100. It may depend on when you booked your cruise. I heard that Princess update their rate annually at the start of the year and that it would be going up to 0.80 but that doesn't seem to have affected my cruise. 0.80 is still better than 0.705 ;) Just called Princess to ask about OBC purchase & the rate is 0.80. It may depend on booking date or I should have purchased some more earlier. [emoji17] Yes definitely better than 0.6953! It's gone down again! hawkers Posted January 9, 2016 #29 Share Posted January 9, 2016 Just checked my emails!! I first booked last August & I'm pretty sure it was .90 then. However I had the cruise re-fared on November 1st which saved us $900 & gave $200 extra OBC. So overall I guess we're ahead. Well sort of! Haha
cruise flotsam Posted January 9, 2016 #30 Share Posted January 9, 2016 I am on the Diamond Princess end of March to Asia on my cruise personaliser it still shows $110 to pay for 100USD my question. If I buy say 1000USD on board credit. The last night of the cruise can I cash out at the casino if say I have only spent 500USD Will they give me 500USD cash. I am not sure how much money I will spend on the ship but do not want to loose my cash I have put on my account thank you for any help
ozscot01 Posted January 9, 2016 #31 Share Posted January 9, 2016 RCI are still offering 0.769 or essentially US$100 for AU$130. If you are quoted a different rate, hang up and try again to get a different operator. You can cash out your unused OBC at guest services on the last day of the cruise at no cost. I left a small amount to cover final expenses and got a red flag at disembarking. They made me return to guest services to collect $5.50!

I read somewhere that there is a fee for drawing cash out via the casino but not sure if that's Princess. You wouldn't lose the cash at any rate, they would just credit it back on to your credit card but I don't know what rate it would go back on. cruise flotsam Posted January 9, 2016 #36 Share Posted January 9, 2016 It is still $110 AUD for 100 USD in my cruise personaliser The soda and more drinks package is in AUD and is only 10 percent more than the USD rate I booked this cruise the end of 2014 and the rates have not changed for me. I think I will just buy it and see how I go

Rare MicCanberra Posted January 9, 2016 #38 Share Posted January 9, 2016 It seems with the AUD dropping again that it may be opportune to purchase some OBC for your cruise expenses and take advantage of rate difference.:D

cruiseyj Posted January 10, 2016 #44 Share Posted January 10, 2016 Celebrity are currently offering $0.77 USD ($25USD costs $32.40 AUD), this can be purchased online, through your My celebrity (personliser) or by phone. RCI needs to be done by phone. The gift certificates link provided earlier is actually for buying cruises not for OBC. Princess and Cunard also offer OBC at much better rates than the current rate as mentioned over $0.90 these can be purchased online or by phone. NOTE - Some cruise lines will not refund any of the OBC or allow you to cash out so only buy what you think you will require for the cruise. Some (X) will allow you to cash out refundable OBC at the casino for a 5% fee. Is the obc you prepay for at celebrity considered refundable? Thanks! I think they were charging about $50 for Monaro last year so pretty good value if you like it. Also what Century Class (all gone I think).
