Depends what country you are in.

In Australia you have to be registered 24 hours before.

 

BTW-You can add where you are from to your name so people can see where you are from. Makes it easier when you ask questions.

I booked 12/31 for a 1/2 sailing. Guaranteed Inside cabin and got a mid-ship on deck 9 assinged on 1/1. Very happy with the location.

I just tried booking Getaway leaving today and was told they couldn't even pull up the sailing. Yesterday afternoon the ship wasn't nearly sold out.

There is some minimum time for the cruise line to prep immigration information for the US. They probably don't have many same day bookings and cut off reservations to avoid any last minute paperwork issues that could delay sailing.

I booked a few cruises the day before.

 

One not long ago I booked @ 11 p.m. Thursday night And had my ship key card in hand @ the gangway @ 11 A.M. Friday morning.

 

Many NCL ships still have cabins for sale the day before sailing.

Check a few this week.

Just remember, they don't give any of the Freestyle Choices if booked within 30 days of sailing if that is important to you.

I cannot find the actual government regulation offhand, but IIRC, the government requirement is that all passenger's must be booked, (and checked in?), and manifest sent to government no later than 90 minutes prior to departure, so that they can spend an hour to check it and still have 30 minutes to clear or hold a ship's departure.

Of course, like all government regulations, individual carrier's can increase the time requirement to their own choosing, and even vary their own policy to suit individual sailings.

Spoke to an awesome NCL rep who told me if I had booked by 9:00 p.m. last night, I would have been all set. It was a super last minute idea but lesson learned for the future!
