Getting US$ on the Zaandam

We were robbed in Santiago today when a miscrit took my backpack while we were eating lunch at a cafe. Besides meds and electronics and cameras, they took most of my US$.

Can I get a cash advance against my account (I have sufficient CC balance available to cover the $1k to $1.5k we need) once on board the Zaandam? I realize I'll need to pay a 3% fee, but having the cash for shore excursions is necessary.

A local pharmacy sold me a 30 day supply of my meds just using the med list I keep on my phone so that is covered.

Sorry about your nasty incident. Not a nice thing to happen.

I believe you can get $US via the Casino.

Something like charge your room for $200 to gamble then cash it out and get your $'s from the cashier.

I am sure someone will correct me if this is not right. POA has posted the correct procedure somewhere.

That is such a sinking feeling when you realize something has been stolen.

You can add a daily amount to your casino bank, play a couple of pulls on the slot machine and then cash out. The ship may say something after a few attempts but at least it will lessen the amount you need to pay the percentage on at the front desk.

Tim, what a way to begin a trip. As others have said, yes. If you have OBC coming to you get cash via the slot-machine route and then cash out before paying the 3% at the front desk.

You have another day (or two?) in Santiago. You may be able to get USD at some of the larger banks, either via a credit card advance or your ATM card. Ask at your hotel, they may know. I know at our hotel they wanted USD to settle the bill (from US residents at least).

If you are successful, keep your cash in a money belt under your clothes in the big cities!

So sorry that this happened to you.

Hope they didn't get your credit cards.

You can pay the fee and get cash at the front desk.

Also, contact your homeowners insurance. They should cover your stolen cash, and perhaps quickly so it can be direct deposited into your checking account,
