chengkp75 Posted January 29, 2016 #6 Share Posted January 29, 2016 Wordless: http://www.sfgate.com/news/us-world/article/Incredible-photos-show-abandoned-Concordia-cruise-6790577.php#photo-9318161 Slow news day. Those photos are a at least a year old. Those were taken when the abatement crews first went onboard to start stripping things out. Everything above water (she's still partially flooded) has been stripped down to the bare structural steel (so all the walls and ceilings you see on the ship are gone, as those are sheet metal). They are currently cutting several ton hunks out of her every few days. Most of the material from the ship will be recycled. For current photos of both the inside and outside of the Concordia, there is a long thread on the Costa forum that has been going since she sank. Here is a link to the company that is recycling the ship: https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=5&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=0ahUKEwjwqOCil9DKAhUsuIMKHRmVDVoQFggpMAQ&url=http%3A%2F%2Fshiprecycling.it%2Fla-concordia-assetto-attuale%2F&usg=AFQjCNESMcwGw14Xv06sXSWCjRLzpFn61A&bvm=bv.113034660,d.amc The plan is once the ship is light enough, and they can seal the breach in the hull and pump out the water, they will remove the sponsons that were used to float her, and take her to a graving dock to complete the dismantling. Still probably a year away.
Aquahound Posted January 30, 2016 #7 Share Posted January 30, 2016 Not that I'm promoting criminal activity, but this is one of the most interesting videos I have seen on the Concordia. It was posted in March 2015 by a guy who snuck into the port and made his way all through the ship without ever getting caught.
Rare Scrapnana Posted January 30, 2016 #8 Share Posted January 30, 2016 Wordless: http://www.sfgate.com/news/us-world/article/Incredible-photos-show-abandoned-Concordia-cruise-6790577.php#photo-9318161 According to the article the pictures came from a book by a German photographer. Looking online there appears to be two versions - one is 49 Euros and the other 98 Euros. My question is to whom will this book appeal?
