On Board Account with Cash

I see on the NCL site that if you are using cash for your on board account that it's $300 per person. Is this correct/up to date? We have a family of 5 so that would mean I would have to bring $1,500 and wouldn't spend even close to that. Thanks for your help.

That's a guideline. When we boarded our friend put $152 on her onboard account. Excursions and service charges had already been prepaid. Once you used up what you've deposited your cabin card won't work so you'll need to deposit more. Some people use a credit card to board and then pay the account balance with cash on the last night.

When checking in just state that you will add cash to the account at guest services once you board. You can put as much or as little as you like on each account. As another poster mentioned, as soon that is depleted, it won't let you charge more until you add more funds to the account. We were on a cruise with our boys in November and we put a credit card on mine and my husband's card but let the boys put whatever cash they wanted to on their own account. That way we didn't have to use our credit card and it allowed them to be responsible for their own charges.

Well be prepared for anything. On my last NCL cruise I was told $500 pp for a 7 night cruise cash account. I knew I had purchased $1200 OBC so I used a credit card to board and open my on-board account. The 2nd day the OBC showed up. I also had $100 in NCL OBC. They used my OBC first, so the last night of the cruise I still had $200 + the NCL $100, and was told they would mail it to my home address.

I went to the cashier in the casino and paid the $6.00 to get my cash then went to the watch shop and bought a new watch for NCL $100. The final bill the morning of debarkation showed a credit of like 10 cents. I never received that in the mail.

Others have different tales. So I think it depends a lot on who is checking you in at that particular time. No hard and fast rule.
