vaindioux Posted February 7, 2016 #1 Share Posted February 7, 2016 Hi We are starting to plan a cruise and it is questions time. We will probably cruise from either Miami, New Orleans or Houston. How do we get from the airport to any of these 3 ports? Are there any shuttles? Do we have to take a taxi? Can we hitchhike? <--This one is a joke ;-) Thanks Pat & Kris
Rare nydney1 Posted February 7, 2016 #2 Share Posted February 7, 2016 Miami to Port of Miami we take a cab for about $20 Ft Lauderdale to Port of Miami we use QLS Transportation for about $15 per person New Orleans we are usually in the French Quarter a day or two ahead of time so we take a cab if we did not drive down Hope this helps
Rare Essiesmom Posted February 7, 2016 #3 Share Posted February 7, 2016 You might want to visit the Florida Departures and Gulf Coast Departures boards, under North American Homeports. EM

jh2360 Posted February 7, 2016 #5 Share Posted February 7, 2016 Don't forget Uber. Eapecially if you've never used it, as you can find promo codes worth $20 or so for your first ride. And each person in your party can sign up if they haven't already, meaning you could save $20 each ride. To give you an idea, it cost me about $41 to ride from POM to the Ft Lauderdale area without a code.
funship freddy Posted February 7, 2016 #6 Share Posted February 7, 2016 Just off Carnival Victory in Miami. Flew into Fort Lauderdale and used Jiffy Jeff Transportation to and from the Port of Miami. Great service $15 pp. Much more reasonable than using cruise line transfers. :D:D
etwright Posted February 7, 2016 #7 Share Posted February 7, 2016 Depends on the port. Usually a cab or some type of shuttle. Miami- we use cab. New Orleans- we had a rental car and the rental car company shuttled us to the port. Houston- since Galveston was so far, we used the Carnival Shuttle. Grandma Dazzles Posted February 7, 2016 #8 Share Posted February 7, 2016 Usually a cab. Have found it cheaper than shuttle, either private shuttle or cruise line. Shuttles charge per person; cab is just for the cab regardless of the number of people. Exception might be Galveston, which is a fair distance from either major airport. Do some research either on specific departure boards of cruise line that you are using.
Rare VMax1700 Posted February 7, 2016 #9 Share Posted February 7, 2016 It's risky to fly in the day that the cruise departs (think weather, strikes, technical problems etc). Much better to go at least one day before embarkation.
Rare Keith1010 Posted February 7, 2016 #10 Share Posted February 7, 2016 As you plan I would arrive a day before the cruise so that a flight delay or cancellation does not cause you to miss the ship. Miami take a taxi. Also for all these places consider UBER. Keith
Jeepenfun Posted February 7, 2016 #11 Share Posted February 7, 2016 (edited) So taxi fare from Miami airport to POM is about $20? I was looking at Super shuttle but they want $25 and I think super shuttle is PP charge right? taxi's is just the far no matter how many people are in the cab right? were not actually going right to the POM from the airport but to our hotel that's right on Biscayne blvd by POM. We're doing the safe thing by flying in a day early. What do you usually tip a taxi driver? Edited February 7, 2016 by Jeepenfun

I would tip between 10 and 15 percent and decide based on how courteous and helpful they are. Keith Edited February 7, 2016 by Keith1010
