sm3ds Posted February 12, 2016 #1 Share Posted February 12, 2016 I cancelled a Disney cruise that was paid in full to sail on the Vista in May. After paying off the Carnival cruise I'm still -2k on my Disney Visa. Yes DCL is expensive. I don't want the drink package. We could never drink enough to justify the drink package. At least not on a port intensive cruise. I bought the 2 wine packages so we can get a bottle of wine every night. I would like to add about 500.00 in OBB for the specialty restaurants and misc drinks. Is the only way to do this is by buying cruise cash or can I call and add OBB. I always add OBB to my account at DCL It's fully refundable. I was told Cruise cash is not refundable even if you have to cancel your cruise. troublemaker256 Posted February 12, 2016 #2 Share Posted February 12, 2016 You can call and prepay your gratuities so they don't affect your sign n sail, but Cruise Cash is the only way I've found to add $$ to sign n sail in advance. However there is a limit based on length of cruise. I know it is $500 for a 5 day not sure on longer. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

You can apply them to your S&S card when you board for those onboard purchases. You can them either use the kiosk or the "casino trick" to get the remaining back in cash at the end of your cruise. Earthworm Jim Posted February 12, 2016 #4 Share Posted February 12, 2016 Why bother? If you just use your Disney Visa as the card when you set up your Sign and Sail account, you can spend that $500 onboard and it will get charged to your Disney Visa credit. Am I missing something?

Am I missing something? I was thinking the same thing. I don't understand. If it's a credit card and you have a negative balance because they gave you a refund after you paid off the card, then just start charging things on it. Heck, you can buy your groceries for the week and subsequent weeks until you are back up to a zero balance. Why wait until the cruise? But if you must, just have your sign and sail card set up with the card, and all of your purchases will be charges against. You can buy up to $500 per cabin. Perhaps this is in the realm of your way of doing things.
FTLCruiseGal Posted February 13, 2016 #8 Share Posted February 13, 2016 You can buy cruise cash, and it is refundable if you have to cancel your cruise. If you do not use all of it on board, it will not be refunded. Trust me, it is very easy to go through $500. A few spa treatments, a few specialty restaurants, and you are there. As someone else stated, you could also pre-pay my gratuities. If you do not want to do any of those, I would go with the Carnival gift cards and apply them to your Sign & Sail account when you board. Whatever you don't use will be refunded to you, or you can cash out on the last night at the casino. To do this, you will have to go to the casino and put the cash into a machine. You can either spin once, or just put the money back onto your Sign & Sail card. Walk over to the cashier, and ask them to cash it out. You will have people telling you to cash it out in the casino, but never explain how.

I may be incorrect, but i don't think Cruise Cash is the exact same thing as OBC Cruise Cash From $25.00 Cruise Cash provides an immediate credit to a guest's Sail & Sign account. This credit is good for any charge made to their account including taxes and gratuity charges. Cruise Cash is valid for a single voyage and cannot be transferred to future bookings. Cruise Cash is non-refundable and any unused credits will be forfeited. Edited February 13, 2016 by dave_k58

The only way to add it in advance - to add money to your onboard account that you use for expenses onboard - is via cruise cash unless you have some type of obc applied to your account from promotions or price reductions credited after your final payment date. Cruise cash is refundable if you cancel your cruise. It's not refundable if you don't use it all while onboard. Whereas cash deposits or money left over from a gift card IS returned to you, cruise cash is not. Unless you cash it out at the casino or the kiosk you will lose it. Just like if you would purchase decorations for your room, if you don't cruise, you get a refund. It is non-refundable if you board the ship and do not use it. The csr told me it was unrefundable if I had to cancel. Seemed odd. I thought I should ask here. At dcl the cms are great at giving out wrong info. Im going to assume its no different at carnival.
