Since when does it cost more for a handicap room?

I just called carnival, as there is a price drop in my cabin on my July 9 cruise. I also wished to change to a handicap room.

I was told it would cost me more money, to do that.

Is it common to charge more to go up a floor or two to have a handicap cabin?

Perhaps i could just leave the scooter ourside my cabin door.

Thanks..

Handicap room is possibly in a higher category than your current room?

What room are you in and what room are you looking at?

More than likely you are not paying more because it is handicap but because it is up on higher floors. Unless booking when a promotion says free upgrades there is usually always a higher price by a few $ as you go up.

Have been in 4J handicap cabins for our last 4 cruises. The cabin right next to ours that is not handicap accessible is the same price. We have never paid more for a handicap cabin but paid more to be on the upper decks.

Our cabins have been on decks 10 and 11. So of course they do cost more

All scooters have to fit inside your cabin on Carnival.

.....and there are some scooters that are narrow enough to fit thru a regular cabin door. The Cruising Disabled board has lots of info.

Thank you... its just inside to inside. BUT its from deck 2 to deck 6 i think. gosh im sure disappointed.

If this is for your cruise on Magic, it is because the cabins are different categories. Nearly all of the inside cabins on deck 2 (Main) are 4B and 4C. the two HC cabins on deck 6 (Upper) are 4E, thus the price difference. EM

Regardless of which cabin you are in you will not be permitted to park your scooter in the hallway due to public safety concerns and regulations.
Not true, last 7 cruises on CCL left wifes scooter outside our door with an extension cord running under the door. Not an issue

With all your past cruise experience, I'm sure you know to contact Carnival's special needs department for information about traveling with a scooter . It can't be stored outside your stateroom and unless you have a handicap modified room it has to be a certain size to fit through regular cabin doorway. Happy cruising !!

Simple question, you are a seasoned cruiser, why didn't you book a handicap accessible cabin to begin with? Especially since you state that you cannot walk, it does not make sense? Did you expect to bump someone down the line so booked what was available or cheaper to start off with?

Yes, more expensive the higher you go on the decks, I am thinking you should know this.

I agree my Father in law had to leave scooter in Hallway on the Conquest. It would not fit through the door. This was a rented scooter. I think in some situations they allow it. Perhaps not enough handicap accessible rooms available at times.

Passenger scooters must be stored and batteries recharged in your stateroom. Due to safety considerations, wheelchairs and scooters cannot be stored in the corridors. Your personal scooter should be able to fit in a standard stateroom with a 21" entry doorway. If your scooter is larger than 21", you must purchase a modified stateroom or rent a smaller scooter.

We are just off the Elation and saw several in the hallway.

I'd say you were damned lucky no one screwed with it. People don't know you have to disengage the motor in back or you will ruin the motor if it is pushed.. I could imagine kids trying to take it on a joy ride. Of course they couldn't unless they have the key, but they don't know that.

I have seen multiple scooters in the hallway on every cruise I have been on. You really notice something like this as it takes up half of an already narrow walkway.

And they say kids are a nuisance on a cruise. I HATE the scooters (or more precisely the riders) who don't manipulate them well, leave them everywhere, run into my shins countless times, block hallways and doorways, park them in the middle of the aisles on the Lido deck while they move to a booth or chair, park caty-whompus in the elevator so it eliminates any space for anyone else. Besides scooters can't be taken on tenders and most ports aren't designed to handle them.

For those in our party who have a difficult time walking we rent a nice compact fold up wheelchair that can easily be stored in out of the way places when not in use and fits easily into all cabins.

Personally I think scooters should be out-lawed.
