Hi All:

 

We are on the LOS, sailing 4/24/2016. We are putting up a Credit Card for all charges; my question is can I make daily cash advances on my Set Sail Pass as long as I do not go over my limit?

Yes at the casino for a 5% fee.

One clarification - your credit card company will see this as a standard charge, not a cash advance. The fee is from the casino.

Yes...but I personally would avoid the fee. What works for me is bringing enough cash and as a backup I bring Cashier's Checks (yes you can still get them and there's no fee to cash them) to cash onboard if it would ever become necessary..and how I prefer to handle my traveling financials...taking cash advances on my credit card isn't something I would or have ever needed to do regardless of where I am....JMHO.

Can you cash in Traveler's Checks onboard for cash? I'm assuming yes, but want to make sure. I don't feel comfortable carrying a ton of cash around and all excursions we are booked on prefer cash or don't take cc's at all.

When you get on board, introduce yourself to the casino manager. If you indicate to him/her that you are going to spend substantial time in the casino, they might wave the 5% fee like they did for me on Oasis last year.

Guest Services will cash Traveler's Checks as well as personal checks. There may be a dollar limit per day, not sure.

If you set up your account as a cash account, you can withdraw cash from the casino at no cost. You do often have to remind them that it is a cash account. I then buy OBC. It saves me carrying a lot of cash overseas. If you get short then you can always see guest services and add a credit card towards the end of your stay but once you add a credit card then the 5% fee for cash withdrawal then becomes applicable.

People do this all the time. To gain points on certain credit cards.

But when you take out a cash advance it is NOT a cash advance on the credit card.. so you avoid the charge there

 

BUT when getting a cash advance at the teller cage-- it will cost you.

 

I think you can do a cash advance from the slot machine for free

We easily and with no fee cash Traveler's Checks at guest services onboard any RCI ship we've been on regardless of where that ship is.

 

We have also at times (cruising internationally) once we cashed them for US$'s exchange some for the local currency needed at certain country ports (small fee...no big deal for the convenience for us).

I believe there is a $200.00 limit for personal checks drawn on a US bank per cruise (not per day)....no idea if there's one for Traveler's Checks because we're never cashing that much at one time.

That's not true on Royal Caribbean. Most (if not all — not sure about Quantum class) ships in the fleet do not support downloading cash from your SeaPass account directly on the machine.

The person told me I can download a set amount from the sea pass and use that in the slot machines.

I had a cash account on our IOS cruise in October and used Traveler's Checks for payment. I was able to cash $1000 in traveler's checks one day when I was settling my bill. I don't think there is a limit for Traveler's checks but $200 per day is the limit for personal checks.

According to the FAQ:

A guest may cash one check per cruise as follows:

• One check up to $200.00 USD.
  
• Only checks written in US dollars which are drawn against a US bank can be accepted.
  
• Guests can no longer cash a personal check at the Casino cash desk; they can only do this at the Guest Relations or Guest Services Desk.
  
• Guests can only cash one personal check per bank account per cruise.

 

Foreign Currency and Travelers Checks:

• Guests cannot exchange more than USD $950 in travelers checks and foreign currency per day.
  
• Guests can only exchange foreign currency and travelers checks for cash at the Guest Relations or Guest Services Desk.
  
• Guests can only exchange foreign currency and travelers checks for chips and tokens in the Casino.

Canadian cruisers have had a long discussion about this in our thread. Some ships have let guests take cash directly out with a cash account(Freedom/Liberty) other guest have ended up with the casino voucher and had to put it in a machine and cash out and go back to the casino window(Jewel most recently). If you call C&A preload money as OBC than you should be able to take as much as you like.

It was an interesting spectator sport on Mariner when I recently did an Asia cruise...and also on other ships those quarter pushing machines can draw a crowd....So..yes...one could and we saw many spending substantial time in the casino. :D:D
