jonz Posted April 3, 2016 #1 Share Posted April 3, 2016 Just booked my first SOLO cruise, Nov on Carnival Breeze, Cove Balcony. Have cruised 6 times before and always with my sisters, each time one of them has medical issues and I was taking care of everything. Always pushing a wheelchair or something. This time... going by myself and looking forward to the down-time with no responsibilities. Although... My sister, who I lovingly call 'the Elder', may decide she wants to come if she is up to it. Im good, either way. I am retiring in July after 28 yrs with the State of Texas. Very ready for the rest. I will be cruising, hopefully, each year at least. My big plan is to have a 'Cruise Account' that I can dip into for any 'last minute deals'. Month or so ago, I saw a deal on NCL for 7-day, Balcony for $599 (no single supplement). This was 4 days before Sailing. Once retired, I can jump on that kind of deal. Not a huge fan of Norwegian but for $599/Balcony/Solo... Im there. So... will be checking this Forum for all kinds of advice
annabell08 Posted April 3, 2016 #2 Share Posted April 3, 2016 Congratulations on your retirement. I like your cruising goal of at least one per year. I have two goals: a back to back and a last minute deal like the NCL one you described.

seamusdad Posted April 3, 2016 #6 Share Posted April 3, 2016 Congratulations on your retirement! I love cruising solo, it's so much more relaxing than cruising with others. I hope you get to enjoy a true vacation from all responsibilities! Sent from my SM-N910P using Tapatalk

bakersdozen12 Posted April 3, 2016 #8 Share Posted April 3, 2016 Congrats on your retirement! I can't wait until I can say the same. Do you live within driving distance to a port? Galveston maybe? My husband and I live in NH, so we are very limited in that sense. Not a heck of a lot of cruises leave out of NYC or Boston. I'm hopeful that when we retire, that we can move to Florida. :)
Twintowngirl Posted April 3, 2016 #9 Share Posted April 3, 2016 I am retiring in July after 28 yrs with the State of Texas. Very ready for the rest. I will be cruising, hopefully, each year at least. Congratulations on your upcoming retirement! I retired in May of 2014 from the Federal Government and am loving every minute of my free time. My goal is to go once a year, although in 2015 and 2016, I am cruising twice a year plus I have been able to go on a road trip or two. I also travel with my sister who is not retired yet but we are counting down to that happening in the next 4-5 years ( she is a county employee). You will have to post again about your solo experience, if it turns out to be that way. Again, congratulations!

Theodorable Posted April 4, 2016 #15 Share Posted April 4, 2016 I hope you have a fabulous time. I cruise once a year without my husband and it is a wonderful thing to do. You can do whatever, whenever...you like. Have a nap when you feel like it, eat when you feel like it, go ashore...if you feel like it. Just enjoy your time away. You will love it.
