Not to turn on you, but Within 5 minutes of buying my insurance, I printed out the policy, had it hole punched and in my cruise notebook.

What? Am I the only one with a notebook?

No.....really....

Nope. LOL

For all my vacations, I put together a folder of reservation confirmations, activities, any coupons or vouchers. Printout of saved things from trip advisor with notes. Insurance if I have it...

Something is very wrong about this post.

Carnival only sells one kind of insurance and that policy includes Cancel For Any Reason.

As long as you purchase their insurance prior to final payment, this above quote is 100% correct! Here is the email from my Carnival rep when I asked for details about their insurance:

You can add it up until 2 weeks before the sailing, but it only covers for pre-existing conditions and cancel for any reason if you purchase prior to final payment
Only our Vacation Protection offers the cancel for any reason.

Here is the link to our insurance, let me know what you would like me to do

Thank you

I believe the cancel for any reason only refunds 75% back to you.

I had a similar issue last time I booked. I asked my rep for cancel for any reason insurance and was told that is what I was purchasing. I did not have cause to use it, but reading the fine print, Carnival has no cancel for any reason insurance in my opinion. Cancel for any reason is get 100% of your money back any time before the cruise. Below is their idea of cancel for any reason. Add in their restrictions and this becomes cancel for few reasons.

In the event that you choose to cancel for a reason not authorized above or for a reason that is otherwise restricted, at

any time up until departure, and you have purchased Cruise Vacation Protection, Carnival Cruise Lines will provide

you a cruise credit equal to 75% of the non-refundable value of your cruise vacation prepaid to Carnival Cruise Lines,

for your use toward a future cruise.

Carnival will not waive their cancellation fee and provide a cash refund, should you cancel or interrupt your

cruise vacation for any of the following reasons:

• a condition that first presents, worsens, becomes acute, or has symptoms causing a person to seek

diagnosis, care or treatment, or prompts a change in medication, during the 60 days before the

Cancellation Fee Waiver Program is purchased;

• a condition related to: elective abortion; use of alcohol or drugs other than as prescribed by a doctor;

psychological disorders (unless hospitalization is required) or pregnancy (unless hospitalization is

required);

• business, contractual, or educational obligations of you, a family member or a traveling companion;

• declared or undeclared war or act of war;

• service in the armed forces of any country;

• unlawful acts (committed by you, a family member or a traveling companion); or

• any specified reason cited previously that occurs prior to the purchase of the Cancellation Fee

Waiver Program.

, Carnival has no cancel for any reason insurance in my opinion. Cancel for any reason is get 100% of your money back any time before the cruise. .

Bolded the "in my opinion" part.

Unfortunately what my opinion or your opinion may be does not matter in any way. It's what the legal definition is as stated in the insurance policy.

Of course if you have a business that is underwriting travel insurance and your policy is as you state it should be in your opinion, please let us know the name so we can possibly do business.

There is only 1 policy that I am aware of where you get 100% back if you use the CFAR rider. That is Princess Platinum. Every other policy is anywhere from 50% to 90% with most in the 75% range. Some of it a cash refund, some of it in the form of a future cruise credit.

As I said, I was not told what type of booking I was booked under--just given a price. Only found that out when I tried to file insurance.

Everyone--ask questions of the booking agent!! I thought I had covered the bases, especially when securing what I thought was cancel for any reason insurance!

I totally agree they don't explain things well! Just well enough to sell you the product then......crickets! I booked my cruise 15 months in advance. I go on "my cruise" to try and see what promotion/deal I'm booked under and no information anywhere! I pulled up the email from my Carnival TA and nothing on how it was booked, ES, past guest, etc. I called and confirmed what my conditions were, but is it really that hard to spell things out for us? It should show on your "my cruise" how you booked etc. and all the conditions. It is hard to remember details months later.

The Carnival Policy covers "cash" reimbursement for cancellation for the specific reasons stated in the Policy - this coverage is provided by the Insurer; if you cancel for one of these specific reasons, you're reimbursed in "cash" via the insurer.

The Carnival Policy also automatically includes "Cancel for any Reason" whereby Carnival reimburses you with a 75% future Cruise CREDIT if you cancel for reasons not stated in the Policy (this coverage is provided by Carnival not the Insurer).

The Carnival Policy is available on Carnival.com.

I have always booked my cruises through a cruise agency. However, due to various posts proclaiming the "benefits" of booking directly through Carnival, I decided to give it a try.

Upon booking, I made it clear to the Carnival representative that I wanted cancel for any reason insurance, since my cruise was near the Thanksgiving holidays and things can always change depending on family members' decisions. I was assured that this was what I had, and my card was immediately charged for the insurance plus deposit.

When I book through other cruise agencies, I always get cancel for any reason insurance. I've had to file a claim in the past and never had any problems with receiving payment. So I assumed it would be the same with Carnival and their insurance. Boy, was I wrong!!

Although I received an invoice for the cruise, I never received a copy of the insurance policy. Since that was my first time booking with Carnival, I had no idea to even expect to receive one. So just a few weeks after booking, something arose where I needed to cancel the cruise. When I called Carnival, they said I needed to contact the insurance company and file a claim. So I did that, only to receive a form from the company saying I had to qualify for refund of my money under one of the "covered reasons." I called the insurance company and explained that I had cancel for any reason insurance and did not fall under any of their "covered reasons." Imagine my surprise to be told that I DID NOT have cancel for any reason insurance and that I would have to call Carnival to work it out!

Upon calling Carnival, I got nowhere. They told me that the insurance I had purchased was only cancel for one of the covered reasons and that it was stated in the policy. I explained that the booking agent had not explained that to me and that I had never received a copy of the policy so I could review it. All I got from the person I spoke with and the one or two others she checked with was, "Sorry, that's our policy." So I am out my money with no recourse!

I will NEVER book with Carnival again and probably will never sail with them again either. If someone is going to work in their employ, they need to train them in the products they sell and how to explain them to the customer. And they should take responsibility for the failure of their agents to provide such explanation and failure to send a copy of the policy to the customer.

I'm sure all the Carnival "loyals" will flame me and say this is all my fault. All I can say is...if it were you and your money, you would sing a different tune!

I am posting this simply to WARN others. If you book through Carnival, INSIST on getting a copy of any insurance policy you purchase through them and make the agent read/explain it to your total satisfaction before you get off the phone. Then watch to be sure you actually receive the policy and READ it! If it's not what you agreed upon, WASTE NO TIME in calling Carnival to speak directly with a supervisor! And keep your fingers crossed that they will even believe what you say!

So sorry this happened to you. I do book through Carnival, but I purchase my insurance elsewhere through insuremytrip.com Where I can review the policies and price and choose which one I want, so I can be sure I have what I need. That is what I would suggest doing.

Sparks (and others),

According to the 2nd rep I spoke with when calling back to inquire about the type of insurance they sold me, she said they actually DO refund the cost of insurance if you cancel before the final payment. However, NOT if you book ES.

She actually thought I was going to get the insurance refunded but then checked with some other department and was told of the "no refund of insurance" clause with an ES booking.

While I sympathize with you, I must ask; why didn't you contact them when you didn't receive the document? I've made some foolish mistakes before and fortunately I've been lucky (blessed) to have someone correct my error for me. Had they not corrected it, I would have had to live with the fact that I was out of money, but I don't think I would have said I'd never utilize the services of that establishment again.

I haven't read through other comments yet, but hopefully you were able to speak to someone else. If the phone calls are recorded, perhaps they can play back the tape and hear that you specifically asked for Cancel for any reason insurance.

As a side note, I've never booked direct, but I do go on and see what I want. I've looked at Carnival's insurance and don't ever recall seeing a Cancel for any reason option. But I could be wrong.

I would still call back and argue with a supervisor. There is a place where you can "remove" the insurance online prior to final payment; therefore, since you cancelled prior to that, they should refund it to you. Talk to a supervisor and be firm.

I had to cancel our 3rd person on our last cruise and forgot to "remove" the insurance before I cancelled her. It took talking to a supervisor, but I did get my money back. I will say, though, that they added it to the future cruise credit, but I didn't loose the money!

If it was early saver, and before final payment, there is nothing to recover. $50 penalty and the rest would be held for a future cruise. Insurance does not reimburse for the future cruise part because it is not a loss.

I Thought the same thing....:confused:

We have sailed a lot with Carnival. I wish every cruise line was as easy to book directly as Carnival. We had to cancel a cruise due to daughter being pregnant and having tough Time. They worked with me to the max.

We only buy Medical insurance as we live in Florida and usually don't have costs for Lodging and Plane tickets. Insuremytrip has been great, but we have never had a claim.

We are booked on HAL for Spring 2017. Used a TA at big online Very Tough to Gossip about it.........Good Guy, I use him for Non Carnival cruises...........So we had a casino rate. Carnival always lets us use both.......Me in one cabin with daughter him in cabin with son in law and grandchild. NOPE cannot do on HAL. Now I am haunting that site to find somekind of a price break. Their web site.....hard to use for me. Hard to find out what is open and what is not. So I go to another big TA on the web which shows cabins not booked.

NCL. Cannot use their board. So don't book. Infuriating.

Princess............easy to use. So we are booked on a cruise there too. casino. First time I booked direct. or through casino. Simple.

RCI.....first cruise booked ( I book Wayyyyyyyyyyyyyy out. Prices are way better usually. Also gives me time to save up to pay them off. A vacation is not a vacation if you have to come home and struggle to pay for it.

SO...Carnival has a good system. Operators are nice. Never messed me up. Always went the extra Mile.

I am wondering if this post is a hoax. The ES only takes the deposit. And most ES...only small deposit. Not entire fare. Not flaming or being a smart behind............It just seems odd that this person would be brushed off. At the hint of a problem......I am always put on with a supervisor. Always settled. Always nice. I am a huge fan of Carnival.....can you tell?

No, actually you are not. I have a notebook for each cruise w tabs for pre-purchase gifts, prepaid gratuities, ports w excursion receipts and any emails, parking information, airline information, hotel reservations, airline reservations and any directions we may need. It's the only way I can travel, organized. Lol Glad to hear I'm not the only one.

I have a notebook too. Our family group consist of 13 people. In my notebook I have everyone's info including passport info. That way if I see something interesting it takes a few phone calls and I have all info to book.
