Iceddown Posted April 26, 2016 #1 Share Posted April 26, 2016 Does anyone have experience taking this route from the cruise port to Rome? What type of transportation do you suggest? Train, private transfer, Uber? What is the cost and time? Thanks.

dani negreanu Posted April 26, 2016 #5 Share Posted April 26, 2016 Have used Civitavecchia Cab service. Highly recommended. I've just done a mock reservation - 119 Euro private transfer for 2 pax. http://www.civitavecchiacabservice.com/#gf_1
celly Posted April 26, 2016 #6 Share Posted April 26, 2016 We used the Civitavecchia Cab Services shared service for € 75 for two persons twice. They were on time and provided excellent service. When there is more than two of us we have always used Rome Cabs private service. Very reliable too.
alfaeric Posted April 26, 2016 #7 Share Posted April 26, 2016 We took the train, nice views and fairly inexpensive if you know what you are doing. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk We did too. Very relaxing and cheap. And very much on time. There's a bus that will take you from the train station to the ship and back in Civitavecchia- only a Euro or two. It helped us that both of our hotels were near Roma Termini.
jamesr3939 Posted April 26, 2016 #8 Share Posted April 26, 2016 This was one of the few ports when we didn't go it alone and booked the ships excursion. It was money well spent. There is so much to see and so little time that using them got us to the head of the line at a couple of spots. We booked the smaller "VIP" tour and not the larger bus tour. We were very late getting back to the ship and since we were on a ships tour I assume they waited for us. We weren't the last excursion back, but all the lines were singled up and we boarded via a narrow crew gangplank.
czcruiser13 Posted April 26, 2016 #9 Share Posted April 26, 2016 We used Rome cabs. They were great. Got dropped off and picked up from different areas. Saved so much time and got to see more than the cruise ship excursions.:)

Sentinal137 Posted April 26, 2016 #11 Share Posted April 26, 2016 I've done both the bus and Train excursions. Will only do the train in future - very relaxing and picturesque. The bus got delayed in and out of Rome, the traffic can be awful. hth

That being the case, the train is probably cheapest if staying in Rome and you aren't trekking a lot of luggage with you. We are staying in Rome for a few days post-cruise this summer, and because we are 4adults and 2 kids with the attendant luggage from a 3 week holiday, we are arranging a car service. Iceddown Posted April 27, 2016 Author #13 Share Posted April 27, 2016 Thanks for the tips! I think I'll take the train. Ive recently spent a considerable amount of time in Rome and I just want to visit my favorite pizza and gelato spots.
Pipo Posted April 27, 2016 #14 Share Posted April 27, 2016 Train. The tricky part is getting to the train station in Civitavecchia. You must take a free shuttle from your ship to the bus stop, and then another shuttle to the train station (like €4, can't recall). The train stops at San Pietro (Vatican), and the last stop is Termini.
