Casino and cash...how much to bring....

So in prepping for our upcoming cruise, I am trying to determine the amount of cash I need to bring. I think I understand how it works, but would like some been there done that confirmation.

I will need cash in hand for table games (this includes the poker table machine correct?).

For slots, can up to $500 be put on our S&S card, then that is paid at the end of the cruise when you settle the account?

I guess it comes down to needing cash for table, but slots can get put on the sign and sail?

Thanks all, I appreciate it!

The last time I played poker on a ship, you went to to the cashier to set up an account. The money used for poker was put on your sail and sign card. Yes you can play the machines using your sail and sign card and it goes on as a purchase.

If you want to use your sail and sign card for the table games there is a 3% charge.

If I recall correctly, back when we last cruised a few years ago, there was a way to use the slots to get money from your S&S account, which would show up as a standard purchase charge on your credit card, which you could then convert into cash to be used elsewhere. I think the slots limited you to $500 per day. You could use the money on the slots and/or cash out and take the money from the cashier to use on the table games or just to keep the cash. Otherwise there was a surcharge to use your S&S on the table games. So if you wanted to play the tables:

1) Add up to $500 to your slot account.

2) Cash out slot account.

3) Take cash and use it at the tables.

Part of me wanted to take out the full $500/day ($3500 over 7 days) and bring it back in cash to my bank to pay off the credit card. Since I would get triple points (3% on travel), I would end up making about $100 in profit. But I didn't want to risk going through customs with that much cash on me.

Yes, please do not take out money to play tables. They charge you a fee. Just add money on your sign and sail card at a slot then cash out and go to cage to get your money. Then you can play it on the tables.

I like the idea of taking out a lot of cash and just paying it back once home. My credit card only gives 1.5% though so I don't think it would be worth it. Even if I took out $3000 that would only be $45 I would earn. Not worth the risk of losing that money somehow.

I was referring to bringing cash on board for the tables.

Thanks for your help all.

Like you, bartzcrew, I am also waiting for an answer.

I only play Video Poker (classified as a slot machine), but primarily play Black Jack on the tables. Since everything seems to be more "Sign & Sail" these days, I just want to verify that actual carried-on cash can be used at the tables. I have always placed my cash into daily envelopes and stored them in the cabin safe. I really do not want to take table betting money advances from my onboard account.

You can go onto Carnivals website and somewhere you can apply for a line of credit. $5000 minimum I believe. Then when you play the table games, the pit boss will just give you papers to sign and hand over the chips.

Or, for table games, you can hand over your Sail and Sign card and get chips for table games. They will charge you a 3% fee for this. It shows as a purchase on your statement. NOT a cash advance.

Or, like me, I just carry the cash on board for my table play. About $2K

You can absolutely bring cash to the table without a problem. Other people were just saying that there are options if you didn't bring cash.

Just sit at a table and lay your cash on the table. The dealer will change it for chips. As far as poker machines it is about the same. Put cash into the machine. When you leave the table the winnings or remaining cash goes to your S&S card account. You then take your card to the next machine and draw from that account. At the end of the cruise, or anytime you want, you take the S&S card to the casino cashier and they will give you the cash you won or have left.

As far as how much to bring is up to you. For some a $100. might be more than enough. For others $5000. might not be enough. If you have gambled in a casino before you will have something to compare. In my opinion the slots are tighter than trying to get a pair of small sized Spanx on a 3x sized body.

We only play slots but I can tell you that as others have said, it is best to bring cash for table games because if you try to get cash at the cage it's a fee. They frown on you doing what others have said with put it on your sail and sign at the slot machine and then cash out at the cage but it can be done (I'm not sure of the limit).

As far as how much.....I say only take what you're willing to come home without. We consider our gambling money "entertainment" money and never plan to bring any of it home so it's a plus if we win a little and can come home with any of it :)

How much cash to take depends on your own vacation budget. Just dont take anything you cant afford to lose and youll be fine. I always take more than I think I need and typically take some back home. I do find I need more than I anticipate.

If you go to slot machine to get cash, make sure you play several spins before you cash out at the cage. I have, for example put $100 on my sign and sail account put that $100 in my casino account and then would take $20 out of it to play video poker. I did this several times and even though I never cashed out, they stopped me from getting anymore cash until stopped at the cage I they checked to see that I was not just taking cash out without playing.

Cash is King! I usually bring a thousand bucks or so. Your mileage may differ.
