Refundable OBC vs Non refundable,How it's applied?

With UBP and the amount of OBC I have I can see at the end of my upcoming Escape cruise losing some non-refundable OBC and having to pay some of the DSC out of pocket!

Does anyone know how NCL applies OBC and can I make sure that 100% of my refundable OBC goes towards the DSC?

Non-refundable OBC is just what it says it is- non-refundable

 

Let's say you have $200 NR and $200 OBC from your travel agent(which is refundable). You spend $225 on the ship. You should get $175, or at least that is what every other cruise line I have been on(15+ cruises on different cruise lines). Just to be sure, check with them at the front desk. Also, good reason not to pay tips in advance or book cruises until you get on ship, so that way your OBCs will not be lost, no matter what NCL's policies are.

 

PS-did not understand what UBP and DSC meant so answer might not be addressing what you are asking-sorry.

So say I have $100 TA OBC & $100 non refundable, I spend $150 on the ship, last day my bill is $339 ($189 DSC daily service charge, which non refundable OBC can not be used for) Do the apply my $100 TA OBC to the $150 I spent, then apply $50 from the $100 nr and charge the DSC to my CC and I forfeit $50?

OK-got it. I would confirm with NCL before or once you get on the ship, but the first payment for your $150 spent on ship, should be from the NR OBC and then your TA OBC of $100-they should take $50 and give you a cash refund of $50. I wish I could be of more help and maybe someone else can help more, but my best suggestion to ask someone once you get on board and if they will not do it the way I think they will, then you will need to make $50 in purchases on board not to lose it and then I would think about another cruise line. Not doing the way to benefit the cruiser is tacky in my opinion.

NCL will 'spend' your non refundable first. Once that is gone, charges will be applied to the refundable. So first your $100 in NR would be applied to the $150 total spent on board. Then $50 of your refundable. Then, in theory (I always just pay the DSC in advance, so I've never seen how NCL applies the DSC in general, hence the 'in theory' lol) the remaining $50 of your refundable would go toward the DSC fee.

 

Last cruise I got 35 whole bucs back at the end of the cruise becasue of the beverage and dinning package perks!! lol

OP -- Be sure to check the OBC. On two NCL cruises last year, the first OBC from my TA was entered as refundable, and on the second cruise, same OBC and same TA, it was entered as non-refundable. When I questioned it, I got nowhere with NCL.

Non-refundable can not be used for DSC nor in the casino so daily charges (food, drink, shorex, spa etc) are charged against that till it runs out. than they, and the DSC, are charged against refundable till that runs out!! Then you get a bill!!

You can use both refundable and non-refundable OBC to purchase your "Cruise Next" Certificates. So if you will cruise on NCL in the next 4 years, you could use all $500 of your OBC to purchase $1000 worth of Cruise Next Certificates. That would give you 4 regular Cruise Next Certificates to be used on 4 cabins in the next 4 years. If they are still running specials where you can use two certs on the same cabin you will have plenty on hand. Remember you can also gift or sell the Cruise Next Certificates to someone you want to have cruise with you. Or you can just sell some to get rid of them if you cannot use all 4. :)

Ok, so can anyone help me. Between two rooms we will have $200 in non-refundable obc and $150 in obc from the credit card (also non-refundable I think?). I have read other threads where people insist that those obc's cannot be applied towards Dsc but CAN be cashed out at the casino for a 3% charge. True? Cause there is no chance we will spend that amount on board unless we have to to not lose it. We have sdp and ubp

I understood that, I know I didn't have enough "refundable" OBC to cover the entire DSC I just needed to know how they applied each and as long as the apply non refundable first, I am good!
