Enchantment notes, mid-May 2016

Recommended Posts

This will be a bit stream-of-consciousness, rather than a strictly "live from" thread.

Tonight I went to withdraw cash from the casino to use up my OBC. On the Anthem, I had to do a "fake out" by asking for cash, getting a "coupon" for the slots", playing the slots then cashing out.

By having a cash account, you don't pay the 5% fee.

Tonight I did that. But he handed me CASH.

Score!

There was a robe hanging in my cabin when I arrived; no need to request one.

I have the Best.Cabin.Steward.Ever.

I got into my cabin at 1. I never heard an announcement; I just assumed.

I left my then-unknown attendant a note: Please leave me ice twice a day and please may I have a lounger for my balcony?

(I am in JS 8650)

I returned to my cabin around 4. TWO ice buckets on my vanity, which he has kept filled every day.

Lounger on my balcony WITH a towel draped on it, for my comfort.

:D

I dined with the Captain on the formal night. He is a delight: Captain Angel Oviol of Venezuela.

Fabulous food, amazing wine, great company. Charles Krug cabernet and something Marlborough white wine. yum.

Almost everyone chose the Surf and Turf, including me. Amazing filet, perfectly cooked, plus a huge lobster tail.

My dining "companion" was Super Mario.

Fun times!

We received not only the usual group portrait, but also a nice "Enchantment of the Seas" portfolio with a picture of the ship, as well as the group photo.

"Closed down" the dining room.

Although there were "slim pickings" by the time I booked, since I was switching over from cancelled Empress sailings, I got what I thought was a good location under the Spa.

Unfortunately, the flooring above is marble/stone, and carts roll over it at 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 a.m. Sort of a sleep-buzz-kill.

Channels on TV are even worse than usual. Fewer "TV Channels" and more BS RC channels. Not only that, but the RC channels show the same things over and over again; no variety there at all.

First night's entertainment was a comedian I have seen before, more than once. Steve Sheffer. He was funny the first time. Does not have a new routine. This show has been shown over and over and over again on Channel 14.

Second night was Can't Stop the Rock. I enjoyed it, for the umpteenth time. Not all rock songs, so that's sort of weird.

Tonight was a juggler. Need I say more?

The good news is that the CL cocktail hours are 5:30 to 9. So I could drink after dinner. Still drinking my final CL drink.

:D :D :D

Today it rained in Nassau.............but not until after I had boarded the ship, so I didn't care. I'm mean that way.

I was able to find the spices I was looking for. Curry powder blend, Check.

Couldn't buy the sauce I wanted, because the bottles were more than 3 ounces, and I am traveling with a carry-on. Fortunately, I will be in Nassau again in November, and will stock up then.

Tomorrow, Key West. I hope that it doesn't rain. I'm doing a food tour - my "thing" these days.

We have to go through immigration on board in the morning, since we went to the Bahamas after leaving Miami.

Elvis is a very cute and personable CD. Maurizio is his second in command, Paulette. ;)

Lots of dancing.

Lots of EXCELLENT live music.

Food has been the usual in the dining room. Tonight's menu is the one that is usually the last night on a 7 nighter: the one with turkey.

I had four starters. That's "normal" for me. I LOVE the lentil soup.

One bad thing: The scallop appetizer is no longer a couple of large scallops with a sauce and chorizo. Now it is a bunch of microscopic bay scallops. Big difference, from a quality point of view.

Waiter Carlos is very good.

I learned from the best, to set up a cash account to avoid the fee..never had to do the coupon thing.

Morning Carole, think we may get more rain today. Talking of the Concierge Lounge, we are getting there at just after 5pm and they are serving drinks then - maybe they feel sorry for us and can see that desperate look on our faces !!!

Well, karma is a B. It is pouring with lightning. Captain Angel has announced about a half hour's delay in arrival at the pier.

It also looks like the rain will continue for at least the next three hours and possibly well into the afternoon.

And NO, I did not bring an umbrella. Nor a poncho. Nor a jacket. <sigh>

The question for me is: do I spend hours walking around in the rain, or do I kiss my food tour goodbye?

No refund in case of bad weather??

Hate to waste the money, but won't you be unhappy being so soggy??:p I assume it is a walking tour.

According to my weather app, lightning is 0.8 miles away..In fact, A LOT of lightning in the area.......maybe they will let you cancel.

You could go to the grocery store and buy an umbrella or poncho.

Assuming you are using Key West Food Tours, they may let you get your money back.

  • Do you cancel tours due to rain or other bad weather?

We tour rain or shine. We will provide a poncho if you need one, and in the event it does rain, we will be able to go under cover at each tasting on the tour. Please check the weather conditions of your tour date beforehand, and dress appropriately. In the case of severe weather, you will receive a full refund for a future tour to use on a date of your convenience.
