Shareholder OBC

Hi,

We have our first Princess cruise in 3 months, and have just paid our TA the final balance. The cruise is to Alaska, but we and our TA are in the UK. This may be relevant?

We have obtained Shareholder OBC many times here in the UK, on P&O and Cunard, to the extent now, that I just return the reply to my last request, along with the next cruise ref number in an email.

Is there an email address I can use for Princess, and if so, do I contact the UK or the US?

Thanks in advance...

If you booked in the UK then you contact the Princess UK office. They will guide you. The contact information is shown as the shareholder benefit at this website: http://www.carnivalcorp.com/phoenix.zhtml?c=140690&p=irol-sharebenefit

Have a nice Alaska trip.

Wohhh!!!

All this advice coming from the US when you make it clear that you are in the UK.

This question has been asked by UK clients many times before.

EVERY time the same thing happens and half of the US seems to leap in and tell you it is not possible to apply by e-mail or that Princess stopped accepting e-mail applications some years ago.

This may be correct for the US - but it is not correct for the UK

The fact is that US office may not accept applications by email, but:

the UK office MOST DEFINITELY DOES.

Do exactly as you have done in the past with P&O and Cunard in terms of redacting your brokers statement and then e-mail it to;

Benefits (at) princesscruises.co.uk

If you are all concerned, phone the Southampton Office but that shouldn't be necessary.

The following is the e-mail I last sent.

"Good morning,

Could I please apply for my Shareholder Benefits of $250 for my forthcoming cruise on Island Princess departing 20th December.

The details requested on the Shareholder Benefit request form are:

Booking reference:

Ship name:

Sailing Date:

Last name:

First name:

Telephone number:

Email address:

I attach a copy of my latest brokers statement clearly showing my share ownership. Could you please confirm receipt of this by email.

Kindest regards"

I got an immediate automated reply saying it would be dealt with within 10 days and then half an hour later another e-mail confirming it had been applied to my booking.

Karen Hawkins, who you will have dealt with before only looks after P&O and Cunard and the person who will deal with your applications is likely to be either David Organ (though I have not had contact with him for 18 months so he may not still be in post) or his assistant Grace. Well those are the two people I have always dealt with.

Princess Uk would NOT accept an email request for our cruise in April. Our shares are held in an online account, the first time in over 10 years that we have been advised to Fax or send proof by post, to obtain the shareholders OBC.

Another member of our roll call had his shareholder OBC, applied by the Princess cruise specialist, so I believe the way the shares are held has some bearing on how you can apply.

In future I will just send the request by post, it was actioned the day they received the request.

I applied for my June cruise by email in April. Everything worked fine. Credit applied with no further info requested. Provided exactly the same info as Corfe Mixture.

Originally had to fax to US (via our local library), but started accepting emails at Southampton, a couple of years ago if memory serves me right.

You're absolutely correct.when I emailed my request it was rejected because they can not open any messages with attachments although previously an email was accepted.

Post a copy of your proof of share holding to Carnival offices in Southampton. Remember to delete any private information and request confirmation by email to put your mind nod at rest.

I suspect it may depend on the type of attachment you attach to the e-mail. I always use .pdf format

What I do is to:

a) scan my unredacted report in as a .jpg image

b) right click on this file and use the 'Open With' menu item to open it in MSPaint (which makes it a .bmp file)

c) Use the Select and Fill features in MSPaint to paint all the data I wish to redact solid black. (Very simple to do. Click on the Select function in the toolbar, then on the 'square box' option and the Fill option. Then draw the box around the area you wish to react, and that area of the image will be painted whatever colour is selected in the colour box)

d) Repeat for all areas to be redacted.

Then, when I have finished, I use the 'Save As' function and select .pdf format from the pull down menu which saves it as a .pdf file which I then attach to my e-mail.

Yup sounds complicated, but it is not and it is so much easier than cutting bits of paper or using a felt pen on a copy which you then scan again.

I think the bottom line is that folks, and organisations, tend to be more concerned about hidden macros in .jpg .doc .docx files than they are about them being hidden in .pdf files and there is no way any business can operate if its email system automatically rejects all e-mails with .pdf attachments as this is the format folks use for invoices.

.pdf is also the format Princess use when sending out booking confirmation attachments so if they automatically reject .pdf files, you would not be able to send them an e-mail to which was attached a copy of the booking confirmation they originally sent to you

However, if it does transpire that things have changed and we do now have to send the proof in by post, then I would suggest that the above method is still, by far, the quickest method of removing the sensitive data and producing a redacted brokers report.
