Shutterbug623 Posted May 24, 2016 #1 Share Posted May 24, 2016 Hi, I've tried searching for this information on this site already and was unable to find anything recent or really relelvant. We're headed to Alaska southbound on the Zaandam in June. We're taking the train from Anchorage and will arrive in Seward around 11am. We'd like to see some of Seward (esp. the Sea Life Center), but without our luggage. Does anyone know when boarding starts and/or when rooms are usually ready? (We will also have a toddler with us who will probably be in desperate need of a nap come 1pm.) Can we drop off our luggage ahead of time? Or is there another place in town to store our luggage? Thanks for your help.
CruiserBruce Posted May 24, 2016 #2 Share Posted May 24, 2016 Fleetwide and worldwide HAL policy is boarding starts around 11:30, and rooms are ready when boarding starts. Discussed here frequently.

RuthC Posted May 24, 2016 #4 Share Posted May 24, 2016 Can you drop off your luggage and then get off the ship? Yes, so long as there is sufficient time to get off, do what you want to do, and be back in time for muster.

RuthC Posted May 24, 2016 #6 Share Posted May 24, 2016 Hi RuthC - what time is muster for an 8pm sailaway? I wouldn't attempt to answer this. I haven't sailed out of Seward in a long time, and muster there could be a different time from my other 8:00 PM sailings. Hopefully, someone else has the correct answer for you. SilvertoGold Posted May 24, 2016 #7 Share Posted May 24, 2016 (edited) Usually around 7:15 - 7:30 pm for the Muster Drill. We usually don't see much boarding until 1 pm, so you should have an easy breeze through the boarding process. Not sure of what you plan to do. It is quite a ways into the Sea Life Center. Have enjoyed this cruise many times. Hope you have a great time! Edited May 24, 2016 by SilvertoGold
SilvertoGold Posted May 24, 2016 #8 Share Posted May 24, 2016 (edited) Can you drop off your luggage and then get off the ship? Sent from my iPhone using Forums mobile app Absolutely! Lots of time to roam around and be back by 7 pm or so. There is a small area with a hotel, shops, restaurants about 10 minute walk from the terminal. In the other direction there is a Safeway plus other shops. Otherwise, as I have noted, it is a long way into the town proper, where the Sea Life Center is. There is a really nice beach walk into town, takes at least 30 minutes and you can walk back through the town.
