I second Flamingo Grill. The 3 desserts are so fabulous and not to be missed... tres leches cake, cream cheese flan, and rice pudding.

 

There was a " Dancing with the Stars" type game one night in the Atrium, which paired a passenger volunteer with a staff member and it was hilarious. Sorry I can't remember the name of it!

Try the different flavored mojitoes from Sugarcane. Raspberry guava became my favorite.

I second both the Flamingo Grill and O'Sheehan's. Don't forget the bowling alley behind the wall at O'Sheehans. It's fun times.

 

Another suggestion is Howl at the Moon dueling piano sing-a-longs. We had so much fun at these. And there were even guests who had a musical instrument on board with them and would bring them to the show and play along with the piano players/singers. So much fun.

 

The Cruise Critic Meet and Mingle was the best I've ever been to. There must have been at least 20-30 officers that attended and many remembered us throughout the cruise saying hello to us by name. We were very impressed.

 

There are lots more fun things to do but those came to the top of your head.

Register teens at Entourage and let them have their own cruise. My teen is still raving about how fun it was. Be sure they have your rules. Ours lost a day because he thought he was grown and didn't have to come back to room when club closed. Actions have consequences, he figured it out in about 12hrs.

 

While teens have their fun, go to Spice H2O

 

Spend relaxation time on waterfront

 

Have dinner in Manhattan Room when there is entertainment

 

Asian restaurant near casino

 

Ice cream flavors at buffet, hand dip station.

 

Indian entrees on buffet

 

Remember you're on vacation, enjoy and don't let little things cheat your time.

Thank you everyone!! I am compiling a list of all the great suggestions! Hoping my boys do have their own cruise and enjoy themselves, love the side note about "my own rules". I too think that is important! Sounds like almost everyone here at CC loved the Getaway! The 28 days can't come quick enough to for me,

Definitely don't miss the Illusionarium -- well worth the $$, it's a great show.

 

Also Howl at the Moon is hilarious. Your teens will love it. Get there early if you want seats as they fill up quickly.

There is an amazing lobster roll at the take out counter of Ocean Blue that you can get at lunch time on seas days( 12pm-2pm) .

 

Very delicious . There is a $10 charge but it is totally worth it.

 

You'll see a lot of the ship's officers eating here. This venue is a "do not miss" for us.

 

Howl at the Moon goes on for hours ! After 11pm it gets more adult( but you will be warned by the entertainers and in the Dailies)

 

People come and go to this all night so if it looks packed just sidle on in and wait for a seat. We find that the first hour usually has a lot of younger kids running around so we tend to go a bit later.

 

The bar service is excellent during the shows. Our three teens LOVE it.

 

Husband and I close the place several times each cruise.

 

Bring $ bills with you to Howl at the Moon.

Looks like people have posted up pretty good list so far so I'll just add a couple of thoughts

-The Burn the Floor dancers do a short dinner show in the Tropicana on Thursday and Friday at 6 (double check days n times) I was lucky to be front row and wow. I believeModerno is the restaurant above Tropicana and they have windows that look down to the dance floor. May be a good night to go there.

-The Thermal Spa. I had this week long package on my cruise and it became the go to spot. It sits atop the bridge with a great view, all the pools, saunas, and steam rooms are amazing! Well maybe not the salt room, really you just sit in there looking at a stack of salt in the middle lol. The heated tile loungers though, that's where its at! I think I ended up napping on those things everyday.

i enjoyed: Howl at the Moon, lunch and dinner at Ocean Blue and the Cuban food at Flamingo. Burn the Floor was fine if you like dancing shows, for me it was a painful hour but others seemed to enjoy it - so gauge your interest level. The late night comedy shows were pretty good - we went twice.

I disagree about everyone's love for the Illusionarium. I found it to be nothing more than cliched Vegas stage magic done poorly (one exception was the performer who did the too short routine with the soap bubbles). It is one of only two things I wouldn't do again on the Getaway. The first is the dining package. The food was so damn good everywhere that the dining package just wasn't needed.

 

Don't miss sitting on the Waterfront and watching the ocean pass by.

 

Don't miss building memories and stories with your kids.

Can you describe the layout of the thermal spa? I thought I would love the thermal area on the Jade, but it was too quiet and the thalassotherapy pool was about the same size as the kind of large hour tub that they have at gyms. Not sure if I will get the package again for my upcoming getaway cruise. TIA!

To quiet? Do you mean are they playing music/ have a DJ and party atmosphere? No they do not... When all the jets in the hot tub and pool are going it does get a bit loud with background noise. Not really an area where people are going on though, talking loud and carrying on. It is a great place to lay back enjoy a book and nap.

 

Think of the room as a large L. You walk in from the starboard side seeing a couple of rows of regular loungers looking out that side. A divider makes for a hallway, Soon as you enter to the right are clean towels/hamper. Along the wall to the left is a station with pitchers of ice water, hot water pot, assorted tea bags and bowls of oranges along with plates. All the way up n turn left. Along this section you see all the thermal heated loungers facing out the forward looking windows There are also regular loungers facing forward as well (two on port several on starboard). To the left will be the hot tub/thermal pool, two saunas (one hi humidity the other dry) the salt room, and the steam room at the end kind of hidden between two aroma showers. All the way at the end is a port window.

 

Is that the kind of description you were looking for or did I misunderstand the question? If a visual is more helpful then look up NCL Breakaway Spa part 1 on Youtube. They are sister ships and look to have the exact same layout.

ropes, plank, rock wall, mini golf are free. The others are arcade style and require a fee.

The ropes course (plank is part of this), rock wall, water slides and mini golf are included. Darts, bowling, pool table and other games are charged per game.

 

Side note I did not play mini golf and am not 100% it was free but I believe it was.
