Rare azbirdmom Posted June 6, 2016 #7 Share Posted June 6, 2016 We've done that trip in two separate legs and the best advice I can give you is to pack carefully. You will experience weather that is quite cold to warm to hot. It's a wonderful itinerary and we will do it again someday.

muggo11 Posted June 6, 2016 #9 Share Posted June 6, 2016 We did this last December on Star Princess. One of the most amazing cruises ever. Best excursions--tour via Princess for strenuous 6-mile hike in Ushuaia Private tour of street art in Valparaiso 4 hr dinner while overnight in Lima at Maido, one of the top restaurants in the world We were lucky and only missed one port due to weather. The return cruisers weren't so lucky Just look at the threads and reviews of last year's SA cruises on Star! Tips? Pack for temps from 40s to 90s! Layers! 5 formal nights--pack the gowns and tux The section from LA to Valparaiso was sedate. And then the Argentinians and Brazilians on Xmas holiday boarded. Like a new ship! Stay a few extra days in Rio. Amazing city and beach. A super good value for 31 days. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
Te Aroha Posted June 6, 2016 #10 Share Posted June 6, 2016 Hello- anyone got any helpful tips about the crown princess.Ports we are going to are : Manzanillo-Mexico Lima-Peru Pisco-Peru La Serena-Chile Santiago-Chile Punta arenas-Chile Ushuaia-Argentina Falkland island Buenos Aires-Argentina Monteviedo-Uruguay Rio de janeiro-Brazil Any information on tour operators at any ports when you step off would be invaluable,to save money on princesses inflated excursion prices, particularly Lima including private tours etc etc thanks ;-) We did the circle of South America on the Grand Princess some years ago and we still consider it one of our best cruises to date. I have answered you in the Rio thread with a guide we recommend for Rio. We did this cruise the other way around starting in Fort Lauderdale and getting off in San Francisco. We got off the ship in Santiago and did a private tour to Machu Picchu for 5 days and re joined the cruise in Lima. Not sure if this would work for you but let me know if you need any information on who we used. Again it was a well organised and amazing trip but not cheap, cheap compared to Princess yes of course about two thirds of the cost ours was 5 days, Princess runs a tour that is usually 3 days total and you have to be quick to book it is very limited in numbers. Ushuaia-Argentina was one of our favorite places so pretty.... but cold. TripAdvisor is a great place to search for reviews from other cruisers. skynight Posted June 6, 2016 #11 Share Posted June 6, 2016 Have you joined your roll call which has more specific port activities. Except for Pisco we have been to all the ports you mention. They are all very interesting, but require lots of planning.
