Thorncroft Posted June 8, 2016 #5 Share Posted June 8, 2016 Y'all are missing the whole point here. No one should be allowed to post video taking in portrait mode!! It goes against nature.

cdamion Posted June 8, 2016 #7 Share Posted June 8, 2016 Did I miss something in the video? It looks like the tug was just pushing the ship off of the pier, which is what it is there for.
loubetti Posted June 8, 2016 #8 Share Posted June 8, 2016 The tug did its job...I am not sure what else is trying to be expressed here? Ya' got me, I have no idea. I guess some cruisers never experienced tugs near ships? As to the pier, tugs are well-protected- pretty sturdy boats they are. I saw it, and I asked myself: "So, what's the issue?" luv2trvlnow Posted June 8, 2016 #9 Share Posted June 8, 2016 (edited) I wonder when this was filmed. I know the Liberty had a thruster problem and has missed some ports. It had to use tugs to get in and out of ports. It was fixed, at least I hope so. I saw them working on it on the Galveston webcam when they came back early from one cruise. Hopefully it is still not a problem. Edited June 8, 2016 by luv2trvlnow

It was estimated by Carnival that the job would take until the middle of June to complete all the work inside the ship.
joepeka Posted June 8, 2016 #11 Share Posted June 8, 2016 (edited) I watched the video twice earlier today and will join the choir in asking "what's the problem?" Liberty is still pending bow thruster motor replacement (as Chief notes above) so it needs tugs to move it in and out of dock. Edited June 8, 2016 by joepeka

oldvato Posted June 9, 2016 #13 Share Posted June 9, 2016 The tug did its job...I am not sure what else is trying to be expressed here? The tug came in and was caught between the ship and the pier. Apparently it was not able to push the ship out, Then it got out of the way and the ship stayed in the same place. The video cut out so we don't know what happened after that. The problem appears to be that the tug couldn't push the ship away from the pier, so it got out of the way. Perhaps it was trying to keep the ship from hitting the pier. I was in the Navy, and I don't remember a tug getting in between the ship and the pier. To prevent damage to the ship, deck hands would maneuver portable floats between the ship and pier. That was done when the ship was being pushed to the pier for mooring or when being pulled out. Edited June 9, 2016 by oldvato

My assumption was that this video was from Cozumel (Puerta Maya) and that the tug was attempting to maneuver the ship to the pier to the left (outside the left view of the camera). I'm guessing now that this was Progresso so if that's true then yes, the tug was nearly in a bit of a bind. P.S. I really like your member name..... reminds me of an old Cheech and Chong skit. ;) Edited June 9, 2016 by joepeka

ed_k_tx Posted June 9, 2016 #17 Share Posted June 9, 2016 (edited) Not my video but I was there. This was May 9th this year in Progreso. The ship had thruster issues on the previous voyage and had to miss Cozumel. Carnival had arranged for tug assistance for this voyage in both Progreso and Cozumel. There was another tug on the starboard side forward pulling while this one came to the port side aft trying to push. There were 30+ knot winds pushing the ship against the pier. The Captain decided that it was unsafe to try to maneuver away from the pier and out through the channel and so we stayed the night in Progreso and missed out on Cozumel. Extra sea day and $100/person onboard credit (which we promptly deposited in the casino) :D Edited June 9, 2016 by ed_k_tx
