Why does it take Carnival so long to process a request for shareholder OBC?

Our next cruise is in September. I e-mailed statement Tuesday night at 10:30 pm and had the credit posted to my account the following afternoon. Received e-mail from Carnival Wednesday morning saying it had been credited. :):)

Well glad to hear that as my cruise is 9/10 and I didn't know if it was too early to send in. This is my first time to use Carnivals stock as I have used Royal's before and it only took a couple of days to receive the confirmation. I will be faxing in on Monday!! Will let everyone know how long it takes to get confirmation.

Carnival has never lost mine nor have I heard of Carnival losing others. I would call BS on your TA.

Princess certainly does not guarantee quick turn around and has told me before to allow a week or two.

If your stockbroker faxed a statement in without booking number, cruise ship and sail date, it probably went straight to the shredder.

I think it is more common for OBC requests to be incomplete than for Carnival to mishandle the requests.

I have had my stockbroker fax in OBC requests before, both to Princess and Carnival. I gave him all the necessary information and he has done this successfully in the past.

I have a copy of the second e-mail my TA sent and it has all the information in attachments.

Your logic is that since they did not lose yours, they do not lose them. That reasoning is fallacious. Have you noticed that since you posted, a few others have posted that it has taken them more than one try to get the credit?

The majority of people posting seem to indicate they haven't had a problem. Since you've sent it in at least twice through your broker, and then TA I have to wonder why it is there seems to be an issue only with your request, which honestly, that's what it seems like what's going on here. I could understand if other have indicated similar problems that you would fall into that group, but to be part of two different attempts it just seems like something else is at play. Either that, or don't ever play the lottery. It doesn't seem as though you have luck on your side.

1. I have previously received the credit with no problem from both Princess and Carnival.

2. Others have posted that it took more than one try. You noted that the majority have received it with no problem, but there do seem to be some who have posted they have had a problem. This is not inconsistent with a majority not having a problem. And my TA has told me that he has run into this problem before.

3. I do not play the lottery, and have no intention to do so. But, I thank you for the advice.

Did not lose mine or anyone that I know, that I am aware of. No, that is not an exhaustive list. Given the number of shareholders that Carnival has, and the volume of requests that must be processed, a few are bound to be mishandled. Probably more will have mistakes by the people submitting.

There is no guarantee that email sent will be delivered.

I was speaking the majority that have responded in this thread. Obviously I wasn't trying to imply that no one but you has had an issue. The fact you have had two tries both with issues makes me feel as though it's not Carnival but something more with the way your request is being handled on your end. The fact your TA has had similar issues with others also suggests it's the handling of the actual request on your end by you or your people. For example a step is being missed, or something needed is being excluded in the request. Even possibly it's being submitted too far from your actual sailing date. Could it not be on Carnival's end, sure, it's just odd that it's happened twice to you.

We started trying to submit our shareholder OBC request in mid June. Waited two weeks and called since we heard nothing. The guest administration people said our name was not on each page of the brokerage statement so the request was denied (we blacked out the account number as noted in the directions) and our name was only printed on the first page of the two page submission (we wrote in handwriting our name, voyage, etc, but that was not good enough). The Carnival rep did not have any explanation why we did not receive an email with the denial.

To fix the problem, The Carnival rep said to black out a portion of the account number so they could verify both pages belong to the same shareholder.

We resubmitted it and got the credit within two days.

We also submitted a request on behalf of our daughter (she also owns shares and is in a separate stateroom),. Carnival said they never received the submission. Had NO explanation....We re-submitted it and she got credit quickly the next time.

We have cruised on Princess over 20 times and only once had our request "lost". It happens. We re-submitted it and we were credited quickly the second time.

That makes complete sense about them not wanting the names handwritten on additional pages, and even more sense to only block out a portion of the account number on subsequent pages. Maybe the specific broker in question doesn't know these specifics on how to request the credit. That would make sense on what's going on specifically for this cruiser.

Whenever we submit to Princess, we do block out the account number totally (following the instructions for submitting shareholder requests), the statement is more than one page with the printed name only on the first page, and it has NEVER been rejected by Princess.

Clearly, Carnival does it differently and should revised their instructions since I would assume most brokerage statements are more than one page and the customer name is probably only on the first page. If they want only a portion of the account number blocked out instead of the whole thing, it should be clearly stated.

Anyhow, now we know what to do for Carnival and we have a second Carnival cruise booked for Oct. so we will submit our next shareholder request in August and see how it goes.

If you go to the Princess board, you will find posts that tell how quickly they received this credit. Sometimes it has been known to show up in their Princess personalizer within a few hours.

I had my stockbroker fax in the necessary information a week ago today. The next day I called to make sure they got it, and was told to call back today, one week later. Today I was told to call back at the end of the week. I was told it takes 7-10 business days to process. I replied that I just wanted to know if they had received it yet. They could not even tell me that!

I faxed mine and it processed in 4 days.

For my upcoming cruise, since I have not made the final payment yet, due in September, the OBC shows up in the email confirmations of the payments and is not on the My Cruise Document page.

I have never had a problem but I send it in three weeks before my cruise date. I also enclose a confirmation letter saying I own the shares of stock from a resource specialist from my brokerage firm rather then my brokerage statement. I have always faxed it and see the credit within a week.

OP, just email it yourself. I have no idea why you want your broker to do it for you.

It is simple enough to print out your statement. I cut out all other stocks and info that I own and my account #. That stuff is none of their business.

Then just scan back in the computer and send in an attachment in an email or fax it.

Easy peasy! I prefer to do things for myself so I know they get done when I want it done.

OP here with both good news and bad news.

I called my TA and listened in as he called his representative at carnival.

The bad news is that it has not been applied yet.

The good news is that at least it is now in our file as received and waiting to be processed. The representative said it takes 7-10 business days. The last e-mail from my TA was 6 days (4 business days ago).

BTW, my TA thought it was very funny that someone could write that carnival never loses anything.

OP back again, and you are not going to believe this.

Last week I was on the line with my TA when he called Carnival and heard his representative specifically say they had received it and it was waiting to be processed. Today, they claim all it says in their files is that they are waiting to get the request.

My TA has sent it again.

I am very discouraged with Carnival. From past experience with Princess, I have either had the OBC applied within a few hours or received an explanation of what had to be done differently. (Stockbroker once jsut sent a statement saying we owned the stock instead of sending the actual brokerage statement.)

I sent my requests via Fax, both within the last week and both separately. I received a confirmation of the first FAX 2 business days after the Fax and the 2nd one I received confirmation the day after the Fax. No problems. Credit applied.

We finally got our credit. When I logged into my e-mail I saw an e-mail from guest administration that the credit was being applied! The e-mail was sent at 5:05, so either it was applied in less than 6 hours or one of the previous requests was finally processed. Either way we now have it. YAY!!!!!
Seems like it is taking longer now. Sent mine in over a week ago and not applied yet. Used to take a few days.
I would check to make sure that they have it. It seems that it basically took 5 hours for them to do mine, but on the 4th try. The other 3 were either not received or lost.

At one point, I was on the phone with my TA when he called his Carnival representative. She specifically told him that it was in my file waiting to be processed. I heard it too. Six days later when I checked to see if we now had it, I was told it had never been received. Edited by ontheweb
