Anyone else have trouble getting AARP Carnival card?

I bought one on the 15th, the transaction showed pending on my cc/paypal until the 19th then released back to my account, totally deleted from my AARP account like I never bought it. I assume they over sold them or something. Not a single word from them as to why they didn't ship or complete the transaction. I didn't even notice until today after I submitted an order for 2 more and started wondering where my first one was and realized it wasn't showing in my history anymore.

Needless to say I cancelled my order for my 2nd 2 and I will just pay full price. I know others buy these all the time and get them with no problems but obviously I'm not that lucky. I'm not going to sit here for a week waiting on a card only to have them cancel the shipment and not even tell me about it. Not worth 10% off for that hassle.

Now I have to wait for them to release my money from this mornings hold before I can even pay on my cruise. Hopefully that won't take long.

I don't get it either I've never had a company do this, they put the hold on my funds on the 15th, held it until the 20th and then released it, never emailed or completed anything. Just tied up my account for 5 days.

Now it shows this mornings transaction has been cancelled per my request but of course the money is still held, no idea how long the hold will be for. Hopefully not 5 days again.

AARP will call or email for additional verification on an order for 1 or more of the $500 cards. It's possible they attempted this, it's also possible they couldn't get credit card approval, and it's also possible they just screwed up.

Verizon Wireless works the same way. Good luck next time you try getting these discounted gift cards. I've used lots of them, I love the 10% savings.

Very strange, I've bought the cards at least 10 different times and never had an issue. Sometimes they've taken 10 days to arrive but they always have eventually. Never heard of anyone else having an problem, either.

Is there any chance that for some reason the charge was refused by your bank? That is the only reason that I can see for not completing the transaction. I have bought these about 20 times and I just got 5 yesterday for my brother. Never had any kind of problem.

I bought it with my paypal card and no it wasn't refused, it was pending for 5 days and finally dropped off and the money went back into my paypal account. Then the transaction completely disappeared from my AARP account. It wasn't on Paypals end or they would have notified me.

I never got any emails from AARP, this was just a $100 card not a $500 one. No phone call from them, no emails, nothing. They just held the money for 5 days and released it. Then today I bought 2 before I looked up what was going on with the first one and decided it wasn't worth messing with and cancelled the ordered. As of now the money is still being held. No idea how long it will take it get that released but it shows cancellation complete in my AARP account and has since about an hour after I cancelled it this morning.

I don't use Allstate or Verizon so can't buy cards from them and from what I've heard buying the 15% off ones that go on sale on Ebay can freeze up your paypal account, since I'm a seller I can't risk that. I will just have to suck it up and skip the gift cards. I can use my points to buy gas cards and cards for places to eat on our trip. Save some money that way.

Just can't believe no one else has had any trouble. Figures I'm the only one :p

I have purchased over $3000 and not had a problem. The first order was over $500 and they sent me an e-mail to contact them and confirm otherwise the transaction would be voided. Not sure if the amount has anything to do with it or if it is for first purchase only. I normally get the cards within a 10 day time period. As for the Ebay sales, never a problem with those either. If you try the AARP again, check your e-mail and spam mail for something from them.

I frequently buy mutiples of the $500 cards and have never received an email or call to verify the purchase. I have paid for 4 cruises, gratuities, on board spending plus casino cash using them.

Not sure why the person would be having problems with the purchase...it is the first I have heard of trouble.

This wasn't even a $500 card, just a $100 one. No letters in spam or regular email both were checked. Nothing in aarp messages either. Only messages are confirming the cancellation of this recent $200 order saying they credited back the money onto my card but I'm still waiting for paypal to release it as of this morning. I know it can take several days for holds to release so not much can be done about that. As soon as it does I'll just pay direct.

I might try them again later for our Dec cruise but this one I just want to get paid off and out of the way. Maybe it's a glitch between them and paypal, I dont' know. Typically paypal calls me if they have any issues with payments on their end so I don't think it's them. They are good about giving me a heads up if anything trips an alert on my account. It just looks like it never went through on the AARP end of things. Otherwise it would show denied and the reason why in my paypal account.
