Carnival paradise- worst experience

We knew this ship was small, but we wanted to go to cozumel, mexico so we took it anyway thinking it'd still be great. Wrong. Our first night, we had only two towels in our room for four of us..no robes or beach towels either. No answer when calling steward and customer services line keeps the busy tone. The next day, we were out of soap, so we waited until night service to see if he'd fill our soap, no... Again, customer service stays busy. You can't get in touch with anyone. On elegant night, the service was so slow, we were in there for 2.5 hours. It was so frustrating. Our food got mixed up twice, for the app and the meal. My salad had no dressing at all on it, they kept forgetting my husbands sauce for his prime rib which was extremely fatty anyway. It took 20 minutes after we were done eating just to get the desert menu. We heard others complaining as well. After the first two nights, we opted out of eating in the dining room as the food isn't good on this particular boat and the slow service turned us off. The lido deck, which is usually the most happening place to be, was always dead. They rarely had anything going on. They don't do enough on this ship for entertainment. We were so surprised how dead it was. There was nothing. The 80s rock show was amazing, the cast that does that is awesome. They can do a better job with entertainment. Most everything was bingo that was an extra charge, casino which is extra charge and sales for jewelry, etc in which who comes on a cruise to shop? Camp carnival was great, my daughter loved it and she never stays in a daycare or anything away from me or my husband. One of the atrium elevators didn't work.

The worst part about the cruise is the discrimination of men with the dining room. The first night on the boat, there was no issue on what we could wear, it was come as you are. The morning of debarkation, obviously dressed comfortable for the long ride home, and only wanting breakfast, not an evening dinner, they wouldn't let us in because my husband had a thick cut off shirt. I had in a tee shirt (which is clearly in the rules not allowed) and gym shorts (not allowed) and flip flops (not allowed) and there were many many many women with tank tops, workout clothes, tee shirts, pajama type clothing, etc... But they said that's different. How?! What's different besides being male or female???? They weren't enforcing the other dress code rules with flip flops, gym shorts or tee shirts, but are ONLY enforcing the rule for MEN not to have cut off shirts. Total discrimination and ridiculous! If you're going to enforce one rule, then enforce them all and the clothing NOT allowed should be be for everyone! My husband put on a tee shirt he had in his bag that looked ridiculous with his gym shorts but whatever it took to get in. I hate to call people stupid, but they were and I'll be leaving this review everywhere I can because carnival should stop discrimination.

T shirts are allowed for breakfast and dinner, so your attire was not against the rules. RWearing a cut off shirt in the dining room is gross.

It wasn't a cut off shirt, just a sleeveless shirt. If you read the dress code on carnival.com, tee shirts aren't allowed. The only rule they follow is the no sleeveless or cut off shirts for MEN. Sorry, I read everything and am not misinformed.

What you describe that you wore was not against the dress code for daytime.

Casual attire is the order of the day. We suggest the following:

Shorts and capris

Tee shirts, polo shirts, blouses and tops

Comfortable shoes, sneakers, sandals and flip-flops

I'm sorry that you were mistaken. Please go to Carnival.com and reread the dress code and you will see they are different depend on the time of day (day vs. night)

Sorry, I rarely get into these wardrobe debates, but cut-off bottom OR sleeveless on men is gross - morning or night - unless he shaves his pits. That's why the difference between women/men attire requirements. It's an eating establishment; no one wants to look at hairy pits (or a hairy belly) with their eggs and bacon. Honestly, can't a guy wear a normal short sleeve tee and still be comfortable? And fwiw, tees are definitely okay anywhere on the ship for all but dinner. :)

T-shirts are absolutely allowed, and seem to be what the majority wear in the dining room for breakfast and lunch on Caribbean/Bahamas sailings. We do, every time. Flip-flops are also permitted. And yes, their code does specify no sleeveless shirts for the guys.

Surprised to hear about a lack of things going on. Every cruise we have been on has had a Funtimes that list tons and tons of things happening from very early to very late with many overlapping. This was not the case?

Um..yes you are. The dress code is in reference to dinner service. You said it was a cut off shirt in your original post.

Here is a screen shot of the dress code. I am not wrong. Thank you anyway. Sorry, I used the word cut off instead of sleeveless... Doesn't change my point whatsoever. If you're here just to try to argue, I am done. I can read just fine and I am correct on what the dress code says.

Next time (if there's a next time), if you require anything from the steward, just flag one down in the hallway. They'll be happy to help.

Or go to Guest Services in person. Calling won't do you much good.

We had better entertainment on other carnival ships. The lido deck was so dead all the time. The fun times had a list but it was things like shopping deals and bingo that charges more, spa ads, and a few trivia things in the atrium, there were a couple of shows but not many. I enjoyed the vacation but I wasn't impressed with the paradise. I am not sure if it was just this particular sail or what but when we were waiting to debark, the table next to us was talking about the lack of entertainment as well.

I don't know why you've chosen me to argue with when several others have pointed out that you absolutely can wear shorts and t-shirts in the main dining room during breakfast, brunch, and lunch. You were mistaken, move on.

Just for the hell of letting you know; my husband actually doesn't shave his armpits but he naturally doesn't have any armpit hair, also there are women who don't shave. It doesn't make any sense. My husband looked nicer than the lady wearing a racer back tank tops and spandex shorts like she just finished working out, yet it was allowed. It should be the same for men and women.

you are quoting the EVENING dress code. Here's a screenshot of the daytime code. As far as your husband's sleeveless shirt, not sure why they sent him back because I haven't seen it.(his shirt)

It didn't let me pull that link up, but I found the link for daytime dress code

https://help.carnival.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/1125/related/1

And it says sleeveless shirts are ok, doesn't even say just not for men.

Did you know that you can withhold tips? You pay for service and it sounds like you did not get service. No towels and no soap warrants the no tip.

Yes but it takes a lot for us to not tip anyone. The tips go to more than just the steward and he did do his job other than that. We said we'd leave a review instead of taking their tip.

Hmmmmm, where is that spreadsheet that says what warrants a tip reduction?

Interesting...I didn't know the dining room was open on debarkation day, that's a new one for me.

Sorry your experience was bad...better luck next time.

We've been going to the MDR for debarkation day for years. Lido is a madhouse with lots of people in a hurry to eat & get off the ship.

MDR is much more relaxing on the last day of the cruise.
