No medical waivers honored! Past final payment

I believe the issue now is that they are available on board, but the OP doesn't want to pay the price NCL is charging: So, I probably do not have any recourse but to be price gouged for a dietary need.

If they do in fact have it available onboard which is still a question (I think).

For people referring to tap water I'm not sure that I would drink water out of the tap in my cabin. However I wouldn't hesitate to use the water on the Lido deck, even filling a refillable bottle with it if necessary (yes, I would use the glasses).

My husbands problem is that there is still too much salt in the ship's water for him and he swells up,like a balloon. Two cruises ago he was in the hospital three days after we got home with kidney failure. The salty water didnt cause it but it didnt help either. Our last cruise was on RCL and we purchased the premium package so that he could have all the bottled water that he needed.

We will have to purchase a case of water from the ship on our September cruise. I just hope that the price is reduced.

I believe the poster confirmed that they had both items in her first post: They did confirm that there is another drink on board that we will now have to purchase too. and then again on post #59: To clarify, the other drink is available on the ship, so they say.

The "so they say" leads me to believe it's an open question. If I were the OP I would want total assurance it was available and I'd also want to know what I was going to be charged so my budget could be adjusted accordingly (and I for one would not be increasing my budget, I'd be moving money from somewhere else we were going to spend it, so I would forego casino and pictures etc. rather than increase my onboard spend.)

Leads me to believe that the OP doesn't want to believe them, as she wants to bring her own on so she does have to pay what NCL is charging. The OP could easily check upon embarkation and if it is not there as promised, she can immediately speak with the Hotel Director and get the situation rectified.

For your edit: They told her it was available on board, since we don't know what it is, it could be Diet Pepsi for all we know or milk or orange juice, no one can speculate that it will not be there as she was told it would be. I'm sure if she asked for the cost , they would give it to her. I do agree if she is on a tight budget, just take money from another items she was going to spend it on on the ship.

The one possible issue is that, if they do not have the other item there, unfortunately, there is no way to get it any longer at that point. If there is a medical necessity for some type of beverage/fluid, then, hopefully, Access can help now.

If it's available onboard then there isn't an issue! You can't allow one person to carry something on for monetary reasons, and not another! Thanks for clarifying - I missed that.

LOL, yeah, the HD is going to run to the nearest mini-mart and obtain it before sailaway:o. Once the OP has boarded it's too late to be rectified. I believe the access desk will still be able to re-assure her once she talks to them and it will be available, the question is how much is she going to be soaked.

Still waiting for my callback from the access desk supervisor..but to clarify:

The other drink is Gatorade due to it's electrolyte content. Can not be powerade. They told me they have Gatorade--hope so.

So yes, they have both drinks on board. They however, did not ask what the other drink was initially denying me to get a medical waiver.

My point is that my cruise just INCREASED $200-300 because of a dietary issue. I read CC all the time for great cruise tips. We cruise every year. Most people look for ways to save or get upgrades or price drops. Mine just went up for a MEDICAL ISSUE that I thought we could take care of ourselves & bring what we need with us.

Sorry, but it discriminatory & price gouging for a medical reason.

If those with medical problems were the only ones being charged for water then yes it would be discriminatory and price gouging for a medical reason. But EVERYONE is being price gouged for water so it is definitely not discriminatory.

This is what they need to verify themselves and commit to. Ships can be provisioned differently and I don't recall ever seeing Gatorade.

You might be able to work a deal where they allow you to bring a pack to be held in case they don't have it on board.

My suggestion would be if you are denied a medical waiver because the items are available onboard the ship is to escalate this issue to the NCL Executive Team. For your cruise budget to increase $200-$300 after you have made final payment and cannot cancel without a penalty because of a policy change, a medical necessity, and being denied an accommodation by the access desk. No one should be placed in the situation you are in. It's stressful enough getting everything in order prior to a cruise and this is more stress that shouldn't be placed on you.

As of a few years ago, I know they didn't have it (we used to bring it for DH) since they had the PowerAde.

I have found that, sometimes, the NCL Reps think things are one in the same (such as interchanging Pespi/Coke sort of thing since, hey, it's all "cola").

Access will know for 100% what is aboard right now (as in "stocked").

Um, you and I can forego the water, we don't have to have it. We can forego the Gatorade too. In other words we have a choice. I don't know if NCL does offer a price break to someone with a bona fide medical condition but it would be the right thing to do, IMHO.

Your issue is that you don't want to spend more money and I understand that. Everyone's cruise who drinks bottled water was increased by $200 to $300 and that is why NCL should reduce the cost of water on board the ships to a reasonable amount (even if they do this, some will not be happy), which they did tell one poster they were looking at the cost.

To me a medical waiver would be granted if NCL did not carry a certain product, like water or Gatorade, but since they do, I wonder if they will be of any help. If they help you, then they will set a huge precedent that they must give a waiver to everyone who has a doctors note, whether it be that they don't like the taste of the water they sell or their feet swell or they only drink one brand to stay hydrated, etc. I think because many will try to circumvent the system to save money (everybody's feet are going to be swelling from the ships water or there is too much salt in the water they sell), it will really hurt those with a real medical issues.

I do hope it works out for you and you are able to bring what you need on board the ship, but if they don't let you, just ask for assurance that they will have Gatorade sent to your cabin upon embarkation , so that you won't have to go around looking for it. Plus, I hope you got the note to your doctor, because I would be scanning that over to the Supervisor you are waiting to hear from while you are on the phone with them.

Also, if you really believe that it is discriminatory & price gouging for a medical reason, I suggest you contact your attorney immediately and then report back to us as to what the attorney says.

OP -- I hope these suggestions help you. Check the contents of powdered gatorade and if they meet your needs, you could use that .

Also, you can get a form from the service desk to request refund of the DSC. You will not need to be specific with your reason. You can just say the cruise did not meet your expectations.

This may help defray the unexpected expenses of your cruise.

OP I would give serious thought to bringing the powdered Gatorade with you and maybe a Brita filter.

Yes, I'm going to have to buy cases of water from NCL & am going to look into the powdered Gatorade. I'm not trusting that they will have it nor do I want to search the Breakaway for it.

Thank you for the suggestion. One of the reasons I came to CC.

like I've said before, I cruise every year. My 3 kids love cruising so there's 3 more potential future families. I will never cruise NCL again.

That's a good idea. Also, OP, you should not be calling anyone. You need to have this all in writing to the access desk. If they give you permission to bring these items on, your phone call is worthless at the pier. You need to have it in writing.
