lauren0309 Posted July 19, 2016 #26 Share Posted July 19, 2016 Have you ever looked at insuremytrip.com They offer various plans and prices. I used this for my 85 year old motherinlaw when she traveled. We would go over the plans and decide which was the best for her.
Rare GeezerCouple Posted July 19, 2016 #27 Share Posted July 19, 2016 We strongly suggest that anyone with questions about travel insurance contact Steve at http://www.TripInsuranceStore.com Call, don't just read the policy summaries on the website (although that may be helpful as background) because the "fine print" can matter - a lot! He'll help with your specific needs/concerns (and he'll tell you if you don't need any additional coverage; he's helped us in that way, too, surprisingly at first, but now we expect that type of service). They use several vetted insurers (meaning, they pay without nonsense or inappropriate delays), and there are several policies from each. Note that Medicare does *NOT* cover medical costs out of the country. Some supplemental policies *might*. There is coverage for trip cancellation (due to illness, for example, but also if the flights are cancelled due to major storms, etc.) We've had two large claims with Travel Insured, and both were paid promptly. That IS what it is all about.
donaldsc Posted July 19, 2016 #28 Share Posted July 19, 2016 (edited) As always - thank you, Bob! I was told that Medicare will not cover illnesses out of the US. Is that not true? First hit on Google - https://www.medicare.gov/Pubs/pdf/11037.pdf - which is the official word from Medicare. Also a short video on the same subject - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yq2WbpPK-9c.
