Unclaimed Lost and Found Items

What happens to unclaimed lost and found items (turned in and documented at the customer service desk) following each cruise?

Serious answer: My guess would that valuable items are send to Miami and attempts are made to return the item (s) to guest reporting missing item to Miami.

Last September we were on the Sky and found foreign money in the safe. We took it to Guest Services, where they documented, counted and had us sign off on the amount of money and room number. They said if it was not claimed it after a month it would be sent to HQ in Miami and if it was still not claimed after 4 months it would be donated to a local charity. I do not know if that is true, but that is what we were told.

Sounds like that is what happens to "lost items". I doubt if most items have much value.

Of course I know nothing about it, but the airlines sell unclaimed/lost luggage and contents to a retail outlet in Alabama. https://www.unclaimedbaggage.com/ Perhaps cruiselines do the same? (Though this store does not specifically say it sells unclaimed stuff from anything but airlines...)

I worked for a large corporation who would donate unclaimed items after a certain time to charity. These items usually came from when an employee left their position or died. Items would be bagged and tagged, sent to the Personnel Department where they were stored.
