O Life "per person" vs "per stateroom"

Another recent post on the Oceania forum (regarding the changing of ships for certain itineraries) got me looking at all four of my future bookings (which I normally do with less frequency).

My two 2017 cruises (both Grand Voyages - Miami/Athens and London/London) were booked this past spring and both had significant price drops in June (10-20%), for which my TA got a price adjustment. The O Life "per person" OBC on each remained the same. The 2018 Grand Voyage price (as well as it's two segments - Sydney/Papeete and Papeete/LA) was also purchased this past spring. However, it's price has gone up (expectedly).

What catalyzed this CC post was a potentially confusing more recent change to the O website statement about O Life benefits for new bookings on many future itineraries in 2017-18 (not to be confused with the recent addition of "ultimate O Life" where you get all 3 amenities - a whole other conversation).

When I did my future bookings, O Life OBC (or excursions or wine/beer package) was "per person." Thus, an advertised $800 OBC turns out to be $1600 for the cabin).

What has recently changed is the addition of the line "amenities are per stateroom" under the posted choices on many (most?) of the 2017-2018 itineraries.

And what is VERY interesting is that not all of the O choice amounts have been doubled to reflect that reconfiguration (e.g., $800/person now may read only $800/stateroom.

For my cruises, the spring 2017 one now reads "per stateroom" and the posted OBC has doubled (that's good for the new bookings). However, both my fall 2017 and 2018 cruises now have the "per stateroom" line but have NOT doubled the O Life amounts (that's bad for the new bookings). Thus, while I get a total of $1600 O Life OBC on that 2017 London/London trip, someone booking today will only get $800. The net affect is equally similar for my 2018 cruise.

What I (and perhaps you) don't know is why some future itineraries' amenities doubled, OR did not, when the "per stateroom" line was added. Is it intentional or just a sporadic data input oversight error done when the change to "per stateroom" was made (I.e., some amounts were erroneously not doubled)?

Fortunately, we booked early and then got the recent price drop without being subjected to the more recent O Life "per stateroom" change.

Has anyone else noticed (or been affected by) this and have a comment/opinion?

Yes...I noticed it and it makes the "o choice" look more generous....saying per cabin.

Like Flatbush...I senced a change in the wind last December and booked 2 years worth of cruises while still able to get the old O Life...with all the 3 choices, and per person!!! It saved me thousands to do so...

Life changes things cost more and this is just a good example of it

It says "per stateroom" for my cruise, but on our invoice, we each get the indicated number of excursions.

I wondered if it was a (poor) attempt at saying that both people in the stateroom must take the same option....

The plot thickens! Maybe Mike Moore will see this post and comment/clarify. It would also be helpful to know what others who have recently booked with the "per stateroom" item received.

Why is everything else charged per person but when it comes time for them to allocate an amenity it becomes per stateroom? Of course, that's a rhetorical question but a fair one, I think.

You already know the answer-

The Offer has to pass the "what if four people share an inside stateroom" muster.

Yes. But, we're still in the dark about why some itineraries with the new "per stateroom" statement have had the amenity amounts doubled while others have not.

$1000/cabin (split by two individuals) is not as good as $1000/per individual (two per cabin max for total $2000).

We are traveling with a single occupancy in the cabin relative. If the per stateroom O LIFE works out to 5 excursions for us (2 in cabin=10 excursions for the stateroom). She gets 10 excursions with only 7 ports. Is this correct?

I have not been able to get an answer on this as she is out of town. Why do I care -- If she has 10 excursions she won't help fill our private car excursion:eek:

I believe that you have lost sight of what Olife IS...

It's an inducement.

Some cruises need the additional push of a larger inducement, some don't.

I have lost the plot completely

Are the cruises in question all with the O Life Choice program ?

Are you saying some cruises with O Life Choice have doubled the perks in the way it is worded while others have not ?

There are just too many cruise to sort out which ones you are talking about

do you have examples ?

To further muddy the waters, I did see a reference a few days ago to "8 excursions" which turned out to be 4 each for the two in the cabin. It had me puzzled until I figured it out.

And of course with the oLife "benefits", both parties have to take said benefit. This can get confusing as well. For us, both of us having to accept, say, free internet doesn't matter at all because I'm the only one who uses it. But if we were to take the liquor package, both of us would have to do so and since DH hardly drinks alcohol at all, that would be silly for us. (I'm ignoring the aspect of the basic package versus the prestige since the basic package would also be wasted on him.)

With the newer oLife system we've been taking the ship's tours (which worked out just fine on our last cruise) and supplementing them with our own. We get the free internet anyway at this stage.

If my brain had been in gear I'd have done as Dan did and booked all of our upcoming cruises when he did ... but it wasn't!

to further confuse people I saw some have 9 excursions per stateroom

I guess someone in the cabin has to sit one out or buy the excursion

I think all these promos are confusing the people putting them together also :D
