How much do you tip?

Was wondering what would be a ballpark number to tip the room steward, everyone has different opinions on tips, I know, but I'd just like to get a number to base off of

We do prepaid tips and tip additionally to those that have been responsible for our awesome experience. The room steward tends to get $$ at the beginning when we ask him for ice in our Carnival cooler and then at the end of the cruise. This amount varies. It's whatever you're comfortable giving.

Are you removing your automatic gratuities or asking how much additional to tip on top of them?

Silly me for not thinking of asking that question when I responded. I hope that's not what they were saying.

I didn't do prepaid gratuities this time, but just wanted to know if that'd be a good number to tip them, or what would be a good number

The gratuities will be added near the end of your cruise on your sign and sail card. Please leave them on and if you want, tip additionally those that are responsible for your awesome vacation.

I know that everyone feels differently on this subject. We have always left an envelope on our desk every morning with $10 in it for our room steward. The amount the ship automatically charges is shared by the whole crew. We have always interacted with our room steward and have gotten excellent service on every cruise we have been on. I can't say for sure it's because of the extra money we leave but it might help. The $5/ea for the two of us a day is a small charge when you consider what you pay for the cruise and excursions and I'm sure is appreciated by the hard working steward. But understand that this is just my opinion....I'm sure there are others who would disagree with me. So there really isn't a right or wrong answer to this one ... enjoy your travels and be safe...

I keep my room neat and don't need ice and don't ask for anything special so I leave the auto tips and that's it. The couple of times I've needed something beyond routine service I give them anywhere from $2-$5 at the time of the request.

Prepaid gratuities left in place, $50 when we first meet the steward, $50 or more on the last day. And we do our best not to mess up the cabin too much.:)

We all tip tour guides and drivers $10 each. Although, we did tip the First Mate $50 on a boat excursion in Freeport. He was really nice and helpful.

Oh and $5 per person for small room service orders. $10 if the order is big. We got ice every day, didn't need it. Won't do that again. Our steward was nice about removing all of that "mini bar" stuff out of our fridge.

We have never removed our gratuities. In 10 cruises we have had 9 room stewards who were very good and one who was just ok and we almost never saw. We tipped an additional $20 for the 9 very good ones and nothing extra for the other.

I'm not trying to be argumentative here but I'm really curious exactly why it was important to actually see the room steward? Did he do his job, or was there stuff not done in your room?

It is up to everyone what they are comfortable tipping.

Our choice is to leave the auto tips.

additionally we tip:

For the MDR depending on level of service usually 5 to 7 additional per night.

Room steward, again, it depends on level of service. Between 4 and 10 per day.

Bar service $1 each drink except in casino with DOU card then I do $2 per drink.

so either way, the gratuities will be added to our account before the cruise ends? to which we will be able to remove or leave them there?

Yes, if you do not pre-pay gratuities they are added daily to your account to be paid at the end of the cruise with all of your other charges.
