Glory drydock 2017

UPDATE: I was told by a Carnival Rep that there will be no additions to the Glory. The dry dock will include replacing light fixtures, lighting, carpeting, wall covering (I hope more modern), and general cosmetic work. The only major work they will do on it is in the crew area. So no additional waterslides or rope course.

Lighthousewoman, who knows, maybe we will run into each other, if we're doing the same date.

Do I gather you like lighthouses? If not, I love anything (climbed a few in my time) that has to do with lighthouses, as well as the song.

Yes, LOVE lighthouses! Have taken many guided tours throughout US and climbed many. I try to find them in cruise ports too, but I'm surprised how many islands don't have them. One of my favorites is in Grand Turk, so we might go see it again on the March cruise. Are you on the Mar 18 sailing?

Lighthousewoman, yes we are on the March 18th cruise for Glory. I do like Grand Turk as well. How do I find out about the lighthouse there, and how to get to it? I am not a young woman, but I can walk for a long distance without any problem. Most people think look/act about (because of what I can do) 10 years younger than what I am. :)

I may have already said, but my sons/wives and best friend are going. They may not want to see it, but I would like to.

It is at the north end of GT. There are many cabs waiting at the terminal, and we took one for a tour of the island which included a stop at the lighthouse. I think I've read they do tours, including climbing, some days but I don't remember any specific details. It has nice views, and was well worth the trip, which I can't say about some Caribbean lighthouses we've seen. In my opinion, it's too far to walk from the cruise terminal, especially since a lot of the walk would be beside dry, hot roads. But, I'm not a walker, so that may be just what you want! I would take a cab, then stop at Jack's Shack for refreshments before heading back to the ship.

We were on the Glory in Feb. 2014 and it does have Guy's burgers. What it does not have is the new usb chargers in the cabins. It will be adding the new flat screen tvs and also the new BBQ dining venue. (which I understand will have no extra charge). Also the new seafood, which charges a la carte.

Some new décor, etc.

We will be sailing about 2 weeks before the upgrade. But, too late to change now. We are a group of 24.

I was on the Glory Nov 5th and Nov 12th and she does have flat screen T.V.s already. Hull will be scraped and repainted, probably engine and thruster maintenance, deck refinishing, red frog pub addition, furniture replacement where needed, wall and drapery repair where needed, carpeting and tile replacement where needed, and needed painting and repairs.

I'm hoping for some new waterslides. Going with extended family in June that includes 6 kids. We had a RCCL ship all picked out and they were thrilled with the rock climbing, wave riders, skating, waterslides, but because of some schedule conflicts we had to go on Carnival Glory (it was our best choice for the week/itinerary). Hopefully they will improve the "deck activities" for them.

Doubtful. Haven't heard of them planning to basically redo the entire outside decks to accommodate more slides. If so, there would be a big announcement I'm sure to draw more attention and increase bookings.

The tiles do tend to get slippery' date=' would hope they put in a red frog pub so they have a place to put the cover band where you can listen to music and dance in a nice setting. Putting the cover band outside the casino on promenade deck to me is the worst possible place for them.[/quote']

After been on the Glory twice, I think a red frog pub would work great in the room that has indian accents with the large tusks on the wall. nice size room but never much going on in there. The rum pub would be awesome!

That's the old cigar bar/lounge. I heard some good Latin music coming out of there before, but I agree it is underutilized. I really like the decor.

We plan to be on the Glory the 18th of March, so we'll see what this ship has to offer us, as we have never been on it before. I have cruised over 26 years off/off, but the other 6 that are with me have never cruised, so they will be happy with anything, not knowing what else to compare it to.

Sailing the glory in November, hoping they don't take out the fish and chips place, it's a hidden gem!

Totally agree with you on the fish and chips! Have been looking forward to revisiting it when we cruise April 29, 2017. Was a favorite for the bouillabaisse when we cruised on the Glory April of 2015.

They had some tasty offerings that were different, and not the same old same old.

This is from JH FB page today. Looks like she's getting some pretty cool upgrades!

"The ship herself looks great and she will look even better when she comes out of dry dock in February. She already has lots of 2.0 and a new Seafood Place so a lot of the work will involve maintenance and carpet and tile replacement. However, she is going to get a brand new Waterworks with three different slides and I will tell you more about that later. Oh and two brand new propellers will be another addition and I am going to ask my friend the Chief Engineer to tell me more about that in an interview later this week."

REALLYYYYYYYY????? This just got me super excited because this is what I am hoping for. I wonder what it will lose in order to get the new waterworks.

I don't know. Hopefully not Serenity or the aft adults only pool. I have no idea where they are going to put it. Lido is already busy enough with the pool/hot tubs, Blue Iguana Cantina and Bar, Red Frog Rum Bar, and Guy's Burgers. It's my fear that they will have to take away some of the adult areas to accomplish this. I hope I am wrong.

I guess they could take some of the loungers out of the tiered levels of lido and have the slides more to the sides, but not sure how that would work. If that's the case, then it will be even harder to find a place to lay in the sun on sea days. We shall see how they are going to accomplish this.
