Flying out of Vancouver

Congrats on booking on the Star Princess! She is our favorite ship and "The Star is still Shining Brightly!"

On our cruise out of Vancouver to Hawaii this last May, we had a 12:50pm flight on our return and with the Princess ground transfer we made our flight with plenty of time to spare. We had a "skycap" that met our bus and took care of everything from luggage, ticketing and getting us to the customs queuing area (he got a good tip)! The customs was a little slow and then this one agent came over and said "Those with only one small carry-on each come through here"! That was great.

Safest - hang around for the day and enjoy the city, then pick any flight you like next day;-)

If you simply can't stay overnight and need to get home ASAP, then anything from 12:30pm is safe enough that all cruiselines will let you take take their transfers (you shouldn't though - utter waste of cash) and even if you are the last people off the ship and wait an hour for a cab you should be just fine making your flight. Anything 11:30am onward should give enough cushion most people would be comfortable.

If you're able to self-disembark carrying all your own stuff and really, really want to push it as early as possible, flights as early as 10am - while certainly not recommended - are feasible provided there are no unexpected major issues (ship late, accident on a bridge, large scale power/system failure). You really do need to be familiar with taking transit and have Trusted Traveler status to maximise your chance of a flight this early working for you, but it can be done.

Question, we are flying out of Vancouver next June after docking on Star Princess. Whats a safe time to get flight out of the airport?

Thanks K and J

In May 2016 we had an 11:20 AM flight from Vancouver to Seattle and we chose to do walk off for the first time. We were in a cab at 7:20 AM on a Friday and at the airport just about 8 o'clock ,maybe just a little before 8 o'clock. The cost was $33 .total for the two of us. I can't remember if that included the tip,but at least you have a ballpark figure. The taxis were very organized and there was somebody directing which taxis we would get in ,etc.

We did clear customs at the airport in Vancouver for Canada and the USA.We did not book a Princess transfer ,but we did book our airfare through EZ air.

We had plenty of time to eat breakfast in the airport terminal which was great. Probably should look at your cruise Personalizer or ask your travel agent what the minimum time is. I figured if EZ air let me book it then it was OK ,so that's what we did and it worked out fine for us. :)

Look in your personalizer.

It will tell you the time that Princess suggests as the earliest you should book at the end of the cruise.

Of course, many have successfully taken flights earlier than that suggested time.
