What are your options if your cabin is above or below a noisy late night activity

Don't cruise lines have a responsibility to disclose such information. I am traveling on Carnival and understand their vacation guarantee is good for 24 hours and most club venues don't open until the 2nd night of a cruise. I think that is rather deceptive, especially for 1st time cruisers.

Please share and suggestions or any thoughts you may have.

Thanks for reading my post.

Always look before you book! That's number 1 suggestion.

Earplugs and Advil PM is number 2 suggestion.

I'm not sure about the guarantee for loud music - someone else will have to comment on that part.

Too late to change or cancel?

They do disclose where you cabin is located. They have deck plans on the Carnival website so you can see where your cabin is located. Then go up and down one deck to see what you are on top of or below. For example, being below the basketball court means you'll have loud thumping during the day. You have a choice in what cabin you stay in. Everyone has pros and cons. But the point is the information is available to you or your travel agent.

As far as using "noise" as the reason to use the Carnival guarantee, I don't have experience with that.

That's what the deck plans on the cruise line's website are for.

Always, always, always look to see where your stateroom is before you book your cruise. We prefer to be "sandwiched" between floors of staterooms. I would not want to be under or above a bar/dance club (and I'm pretty sure they're open the first night of the cruise).

Also, a head's up....when you're looking at the deck plans and there is empty "white space" on the other side of the hall from the stateroom you're thinking of booking it very well could be the stateroom attendant's closet. Where they store the vacuum cleaners, etc. We were across from one of those one time (my mistake!) and they were in and out of that room until late at night (1 a.m.) and started in again early (5 a.m.). Letting the door bang shut, talking loudly and laughing and singing. Earplugs were definitely needed!

I always use earplugs every night on a cruise, no matter where our stateroom is located. You still have inconsiderate people walking in the hallway that talk loudly, and even just the normal creaking noises of the stateroom could keep me awake.

Some people bring a fan or white noise machine too.

If your choosing your cabin do some research. Very easy to see if your cabin is under or above a venue. If your letting carnival choose your cabin (which is a lower fare) that's the chance you take. It's a gamble.

I get motion sickness, so I choose my cabin. We pay a little more for mid ship and usually deck 7 or above.

Bring ear plugs just in case. They work great.

Good luck! Happy cruising!

Incorrect. There is live music every night in venues, plus the shows in the theaters and karaoke.

As others have pointed out, they have deck plans which will allow you to see what your room is close to as well as what is above and below you. I think that is plenty of disclosure.

you make the mistake only once.

Use to not care...until I had the room right over the bandstand......in the disco.

You learn quickly that after live music , the have "canned" music until people are still there............ NEVER AGAIN.

.

Now I check / and pick......... no compensation.

That is just one reason to use a travel agent. That said, do as others suggest and have a good cruise. Looking for an out before you leave is no way to plan for a cruise.

Definitely check out the deck plans of your ship before making a decision on accepting a particular room.

If you are on board now, you can go to Guest Services. Hopefully, they may have a cancellation and can move you to that room. Don't hold your breath though.

Is this a general question or have you found you are near a nightclub or stage area?

You could throw temper tantrums every morning at Customer Service, and demand they move you to another room.... we saw this happen. They were across the hall from us and both rooms were right above the bandstand in the Casino, so loud music every night. We didn't complain, the first two nights were tough, but after that we were so tired from our excursions, that we both fell asleep quickly. No reason to complain, we picked the room on a last minute cruise, as did that other couple....

^^This. Booking requires a little bit of work and common sense on the part of the consumer.

From reading other reviews/complaints, if there is a issue with your cabin, they will try to move you if there is space available.

The cruise lines probably should disclose it, but they don't. You will never know if you just book online and don't do any other research. However, a good travel agent will always give you that information. Also if you book over the phone you might be told about it if the rep is a good one. You do have a few options to rectify it depending on when you find out.

If you find out ahead of time, then you can cancel your cruise, move your cabin to a different location in the same category (if possible), or upgrade to a new category with cabins in a better location.

If you don't find out until you get on board you can invoke the 24 hour guarantee, go speak to guest services and see if they can move you (very rare), ask for some ear plugs, or just stay out all night. I don't know where you got your information, but the possibly loud venues do actually open on the first day. In fact, that is usually when those kind of things are the loudest because everyone is ready to party and be on vacation.

There is no cabin of doom on a cruise ship. You will survive. Just because it's a little louder than you like doesn't mean you can't have a good time the other 16-20 hours of the day.

It looks like I should have done more research before jumping in!

Thanks again everyone

What you are doing is research. Jump in. The water is fine. Just be wary of the sharks. As others have stated, the info is out there and a good PVP or TA is priceless. We have a porthole cabin for our next booking. Our PVP was very persistent in warning us of the possible issues some might have with our cabin. He warned of motion because of location. He warned of anchor noise on tendered ports and bow thruster noise on pier ports. Life is about learning and hopefully doing better the next time. Asking and reading is research.

Just bad luck, especially for new cruisers. I always check out what is above and under me when booking a cabin, although I have to admit until I had a bad experience on our 3rd cruise I never even thought about it. We were right under the lido deck. Music and noise didn't bother us at all, but about midnight every night you would hear them stacking the lounge chairs to wash down the deck so for about a half an hour it would be "Screach - SLAM! Screach - SLAM!" then at about 5:30 "SLAM! - Screach" as they pulled them down then dragged them into place! Personally, I would have preferred music until 2 AM lol

Now I get a balcony with rooms above me and rooms below me - no nasty surprises! Hopefully your next cruise will be more peaceful! :)

Late night noise near your cabin may not bother everyone. So unless you make it known that you don't want to be near noise, there's no obligation for anyone to tell you anything - especially if you hand pick the cabin.

Now that you know where the cabin is, move if you think noise will bother you. If it's too late, then go with bringing ear plugs and/or a white noise machine and consider it lesson learned.

It dosnt bother me so much since I'm out late but on my last cruise on the Valor last month we had a balcony room on the panorama with spa balconies above and the people in the room above would stomp all night long.

I don't think I could let Carnival ever choose my room. I don't want to be near the galley, near the band, near the disco..when it's time for snoozin...I want to snooze! Nothing on this Earth is meaner than me when woken up without ample sleep;)
