Plan to take my wife and I ( both seniors ) on a cruise in November 2016. Which cruise are recommended , to destinations having good weather. Alaska was one of the choices. Duration of cruise 7 - 10 days max. Princess cruises I believe are good. We are first timers and are from Toronto, Canada. Any suggestions and warnings. Any Pricing advice. Thanks. Take care. Dilip

I'm no expert, but I do know that you won't find any cruises to Alaska in November. That is not a good weather location in fall/winter/early spring.

Check out the Caribbean cruises, or Bahamas (many of those leave from New York or New Jersey I believe...I'm a west coaster myself, so don't really know those cruise ports).

But you've come to right place to start looking. My DH and I have sailed Princess, but prefer Holland America. Just start reading reviews on this site on the different cruise lines and I'm sure you'll find the line that suits you. And look at destination reviews as well.

I hope others with more experience will chime in!

Good luck, and I hope you'll fall in love with cruising. We did!

Rachel:)

There are Caribbean cruises, and Mexican Riviera cruises. And full or partial transits of Panama Canal. The first thing I would do would look at departure ports, then research airfare from your nearest airport to those ports. When you find airfare you can stomach, then start looking at ships and itineraries from that port. A good place to start is http://www.cruisetimetables.com. Your can search cruises by departure port and date, or ports of call, or ships. EM

Check out the Departure port boards and then go to one of the online ta sites. You can check out the cruises that are available from each port, the ports of call and prices. Remember to add port taxes and tips. We are looking at a cruise out of New Orleans in November and the port taxes and tips add almost $200.

The weather in the Caribbean and Bahamas in November is nearly perfect temperature wise.

I would suggest you go to a local travel agency (look for one listed as a "cruise specialist") with an idea of budget, time of year, possible areas in the world you're interested in. a good TA can narrow down the itineraries for your time period and give you an idea of what cruises and cruise lines will fit for you. There's no cost for this and even if they book a cruise for you (just make sure to ask ahead of time if there's any charges for changes or cancellations...then you'll want to say thanks for the info and leave...most reputable ta's won't have these kinds of charges)

You have to do a lot more research and come back w some specific questions before any of us can give you any useful answers.

The fact that you asked about Alaska cruises in November highlights this point as the last AK cruises besides the Alaska Marine Highway ships stop 2 months earlier in September.

I would suggest that a trip to your public library would be in order.

forget Alaska. they stop sailing there in September( the season is very short: May-September with the two end months having very few sailings at all)

in November you pretty much are limited to the Caribbean/Bahamas. Maybe out of CA a Mexican Riviera .

if your only criteria is November for 7 days then find a good Travel agent.

also you should understand that for a November this year cruise your options will be VERY limited as far as itinerary,. available cabins and other things since the sailing is so close. Most people are booking a year plus out. booking this close means you could be required to pay in full up front or have very little choice as to cabin type.

Alaska is not an option in November. There are many Caribbean and Bahamas sailings from Florida ports. For shorter travel. Norwegian, Carnival, Cunard and Royal Caribbean all sail from New York to Bahamas and Caribbean in November.

Finally, if your dates are flexible, you could consider one ways from Montreal in October, and flying back: Oct. 15 Holland America 7 days to Boston; Oct. 17 Carnival 8 days to New York; Oct. 22 Oceania 14 days to Miami.

Princess has a 10 day cruise departing San Pedro, Southern California, going to the Mexican Riviera in November.

You might look at this cruise.

The Crown Plaza hotel is a very short distance away from the port.

Holland America seems to cater to seniors & have some good choices for Nov. But like others have said, it might be best to look for something sailing next year. If it's Alaska you're wanting: May- Sept. I only have experience with Holland Am, Carnival & Royal Caribbean so couldn't advice you on Princess, or Celebrity- only that I've read they are good for seniors. We are in the late 50-late 60 range. We usually sail Carnival because fares are low & have many itineraries to choose from.

I am also a senior and have been cruising for a while. I prefer Holland America because they seem to best serve our age group. Some other cruise lines tend to draw a younger age group. That is fine, but my preference is a more laid back cruise. There is lots to do on a HAL cruise. The food is great, the entertainment wonderful and the ports are interesting. HAL has a strong reputation and once you cruise with them you can gather points through their Mariner Society for trip perks.

If you don't need to be home, look up Christmas on Princess around the Horn,14 day. Prices dropped $1300 in the last month and it wont be too crowded. Be in Ushuaia Christmas Day. Otherwise there are a lot of Panama, Mexico, And the Fl, Belize, Mexico. Temps will be in the 80 barring a hurricane or Tropical storm. There are about 2500 thread of warnings so read them with a bit of caution as some people love to gripe and some love a drama. We recommend Princess for a better than Mcdonalds experience. How would I know as they tore ours down this week. LOL

We are cruising to Alaska in two weeks. Princess. Second to last for the season.

Most business close up Oct. 1 for the winter. Most notable is Tracy's Crab Shack in Juneau. ;)

We like cruising in Nov. or the first couple of weeks of Dec. Caribbean, East, West and South are great. For the west coast it's Hawaii round trip from LA.

Princess is our line of choice. Tried many but they fit us best. Hope this helps.
