Epic - whats hanging off the side of the ship at the rear

Towards the rear of the ship, there are three hull balconies on each deck. What's the contraption that seems to be in every photo, that looks like its obstructing the view on the most forward of the three hull balconies, around deck 12 and/or 13? You can see it below. It's in the same place on both photos so it seems like it lives there.

We have an aft facing balcony on our first Epic cruise in Dec. what is the dark looking opening (or appearance of an opening) in the picture posted above under the last row of aft facing balconies? Thanks in advance to all you experts that know the answer.

That's the large window of Manhattan (one of the two MDR's).

You'll be able to listen to the band from the comfort of your stateroom. :)

By the way, those are not hull balconies. All of the hull balconies on the Epic are forward.

Those three windows are where the "secret aft staircase" is.

"secret aft staircase"

Is this Aft Staircase/Stairwell/Ladder for customer use (emphasis on Secret)

or just for crew use and emergencies ?

Curiosity of what is behind those doors or passageways marked "Crew Only" ?

Had an insider look during a Muster Drill on the Princess (Golden) of one such

crew use stairwell since elevators are restricted during Muster.

Hello from Squidward! Aft facing balconies are great, you will enjoy it. We had one on the Disney Dream and it was very nice. Take care and talk to you later.

Hey Squidward and Mrs. Squidward, how are you? We just about always sail in an aft facing balcony, we have had a lovely forward facing suite on the Sun and Spirit but prefer the aft., even when it's not a suite.

Hope we sail with you two again someday!:)
