Thanks Giving Day Football

Cruise Arizona

Recommended Posts

Please NO football on Thanksgiving cruises. For several years, DD's & I have left our DH's & DS's at home to eat turkey sandwiches and watch marathon football on Thanksgiving weekend, while we go away to avoid it. This year we're taking a 4-night cruise on the Zenith and don't even want to hear the scores much less watch the games!

It works beautifully -- after several days of spa treatments & gourmet cuisine, the gals are ready to come home & cook. And the guys have spent so much time in their recliners glued to the TV that they're willing to get up and help. Then we can all enjoy a "traditional" Thanksgiving together the next weekend!

Hi, the Turkey Day games are on FOX and CBS. If the Cruiseline pays

the $$$ to pick up the feed then they can be shown.

I was on CENTURY back in January 2004 and it was the weeked of the NFL

playoffs.....now, those games were shown. I remember there was

a group from Philly on the ship. They were celebrating a friend's

50th birthday and took up the whole sports bar;) (almost). It was

the Carolina/Philly game.

Now that sports bar will no long be on Century after they finish her

major drydock in the spring of 2006. It was called Images. It is being

turned into a large Martini Bar.

Playoff games are shown on ESPN International on the cruise ships. If any game is on ESPN or ESPN I, then you will get to see the games. But since NFL football is on Fox and CBS, you're not going to see the games. You haven't lived until you see the Super Bowl in Spanish.

I asked the same question on our Century roll call & was told that we should be able to see the games in Images. My DH & I are both sports fans & enjoy watching football together. A Thanksgiving w/o football would seem odd to us. Turkey Day will be a sea day for us, so we'll have a perfect opportunity to catch the games. It won't make or break the cruise, but will be nice to be able to see the games. Now, I'll just have to tape the Macy's parade, so I don't miss anything. :)

If you were on Millie then you might possibly catch games in the sports bar. Your options are fewer on the other ships. Celebrity has on occasion shown games in the theatre on M class ships and these were regular network broadcasts.

It's a very odd feeling to be watching a snowy winter game in the theatre and then go out and be in the warm carribean weather.

I am really surprised to hear this: we were on the Connie 2 years ago for turkey day and there was no football at all, or if there was we sure missed it. For DH and DSIL not to find a footballl game is a real shocker. NMnita

Only if he paints a very large "7" on the back of his tux jacket.:D

Where are you located?

Near Boulder..... how about you?

Hey, I LIKE the #7 on the back - I could get some orange tape and ..... yeah, that's a GREAT idea!! :D

Ditto. Was Niwot, now NE Longmont. To prove just how small the world is, we were just on a river cruise in Germany. Surprise ... Two people we'd known for years from Niwot were on the boat with us. Never discussed it with them. Total pax, 87. What were the odds?

I do recall watching NFL football in 11 forward (could have been either Infinity or Summit) on at least one prior cruise. The TV was set up towards the rear, facing front, starboard entrance.

They say that through 6 aqauintences we can be connect to every one in the world, but for you it sound like you are directly connected.

DH and I once met a man at the airport in Hong Kong who belonged to the same trade association that my Mother works for, and he had met her at the last convention they had put on.

DH is a big Detroit Lions fan. No reasonable explaination for this execpt that he was born in Michigan.

2 years ago on Mercury, no Thanks Giving Football.

2005 Infinity San Dieago Hawaii RT. Any Thanks Giving Football?

Is your husband STILL a big Lions fan. After the way they have been playing,he may choose not to watch them and enjoy his vacation.I too am a masochistic Lions fan and have suffered sooooooo long. I feel his pain and worry that the temptation to jump overboard might become too great after yet another crushing defeat.

He hasn't given up hope yet, that one day they will be winners. His patience paid off with the Red Wings, He's still hoping for Some Day for the Lions.

Not that it was really any big deal anyway, because if he couldn't live with-out his Football, he wouldn't have booked the cruise. Maybe over a year ago he knew in the back of his mind that this wouldn't be the year either.

They do say that's true! I also read somewhere that if you talk to someone sitting next to you on an airplane, there's a 9 out of 10 chance that you have someone in common as well. I guess that takes the six degrees of separation and narrows it down to either the city you're leaving from or the city you're going to.

Anyway, regarding football, one of the hardest things about booking our upcoming Millie transatlantic was the fact that it's sailing over T-giving. We will be sailing between Malaga and the Canary Islands on Thanksgiving Day, and I've never been able to get an answer from anyone as to when the ship will loose the feed. Also unsure whether (even if we did have a feed) Celebrity would buy the FOX or CBS package. Thanks, LoisR, for letting me know they've at least done it before. On my Princess transpacific last year, they only had ABC/ESPN (en espanol) so we only got Sunday night and Monday Night Football. I'm not holding out much hope.

There isn't one -- only on the Millennium.

OK,

Joey Harrington actually had a good day today and the Lions are back on the winning path.

So, Maybe, we'll have some Turkey day football??? Who knows, If not, Like I said , we'll read about it in the Paper.

Ove the lastt 12 year since we have been married DH and I have spent Thanks Giving in the Phillipeans, Germany, Mexico, and the remaining 9 years in the USA eating the traditional dinner. Eitherway its pretty good.
