If you are a future cruiser who ends up with a smelly cabin like you have read about... it is true because we got one! #9506 stunk. I had the cleaning person change all towels and it did not help. I explained to her that the bathroom smelled like it had been cleaned with a dirty rag. She said she would put bleach in all bathroom drains and it would stop. It worked!! There is no free WiFi on this ship. It was a promotion from the past. They do not have tv where you can check your account balance so you do not know they are adding your gratuities on to your account each day. I knew to ask and guest relations removed ours. They charge extra extra for California rolls at buffet! They charge extra for gelato and desserts from coffee place. This ship is more quiet and not a lot of activities during the day. Sounds like you didn't really research things about MJ before you left. As far as removing your tips,I hope your poor cabin steward was not gypped after all she did for you. How do you know what was or was not done on my cruise? All cruises are not the same. I always research. Don't be so quick on your assumptions. I was on this ship a couple weeks ago and while my cabin did not smell, I walked past a few where the smell was pouring unto the hall. It was horrible! And my cabin attendant, while friendly and kind was not a good cleaner. I did pay gratuities on my sea pass, but no extra like I normally would. Sent from my iPhone using Forums I agree, although the ship is not one of the best, we thought the crew was one of the best we have sailed with. It was our first MJ cruise and we learned a lot. As far as smells go... we were on over Memorial day weekend and our cruise had a lot of college age adults aboard. We did smell strong odors in the hallways. Many of people aboard were putting their shoes outside the doors and they smelled horrible. I believe the smells we smelled, outside of our cabin, was related to the hygiene of those we sailed with. Seems to me their shoes, mostly tennis shoes, were put in the hall to keep the stink out of their room. It was the vent and it smelled like a sewer. Our steward put a deodoriser and said "this is how it is on all cruise ships". Yeah... Sure... We were in cabin 9554 and did not have any foul smells in our cabin but did notice a foul smell in the hall one day as we walked from the elevators to our cabin. The dining room wait staff was excellent, but the food seems to have dropped off as compared to our last RCCL cruise in March. The Windjammer buffet food quality was BAD. I love hot dogs but the cardboard sausage labeled as "hot dogs" were inedible. Dessert pastries were stale and generally bland in both the Windjammer and the main dining room - like they had been frozen and thawed out for service. With few food selections in the Windjammer due to the limited number of food bars/islands, it was curious that one island was taken up with Indian food and the cruise director only reported 12 passengers from India on the cruise and 2,354 from the USA. Seems as if they could make better us of their limited service islands to better accommodate the clientele. As to gratuities, you can pay the $13.50 per person per day OR you can go to guest relations and have them change the fee to whatever you wish. We paid the standard gratuity, but did not tip otherwise (except for a small tip for our cabin steward, because we had a couple of personal requests.) Bob You hit the nail on the head with your observations.... It seemed odd to us having one complete service bar in WJ with Indian food. As far as being able to check you seapass accounts via the TV.....from what I understand it is on ships in the Voyager and above classes for sure. They may be adding that convenience on Radiance and Vision class ships during individual refurbs. On our last cruise on Her Majesty back in February, they did not have sushi in the WJ at all. I eat Indian, Chinese, Korean, Mexican, Mediterranean, European, Middle Eastern, American, etc. Nothing like a good camel burger if you get the right kind of camel. However, with a limited serving capability of the Majesty, I questioned the dedication of limited serving resources to serving .0048% of the clientele. I was not being critical of the opportunity to try different foods. By the way, the only alternative foods offered that I observed were pastas, Indian, and Spanish paella (which I enjoyed.) Bob I don't believe they make the determination about the food offerings based on the breakdown of cruisers onboard, but more about the culinary style of the Executive Chef coupled with the ability of the staff along with the availability of food supplies. We have had specialty food made for our tablemates via the MDR, which was very enjoyable. No one asked for it, but in having conversations with our wait staff and having them learn about our backgrounds they offered to ask the chef for some specialties.....it made it very 'family'. Personally I find the Indian food some of the better stuff in Windjammer. Not sure, but I think most to the chefs tend to come from India. So it might be a case of taking pride in their home country food. Then again, I find most of the other food in WJ bland at times. Same old, same old stuff.
