Midnight Buffets!!!

Recommended Posts

We sailed Zenith to Bermuda and they had a magnificent Grand Midnight Buffet on the last formal night (Thursday night on a 7day cruise). It was so amazing to see that they allowed you all to walk through it and take pictures before anyone was allowed to eat.

The also had a nice fruit and dessert buffet at night (it may have been at 11:30 or so) out on the pool deck. They did amazing carvings on watermelons for that one.

As I remember I think our Zenith trip was the last big spread. Princess has by and large quit doing them and now just has displays in the atrium

We had both a midnight buffet and then a chocolate buffet on another night on our 4-nighter on the Majesty last year. The midnight buffet was spread out all along the pool deck with different stations for different types of food. They had an ice-carving demonstration before the buffet started.

I also recall the nightly midnight buffets. Each was elaborate, and they led up to the Gala Buffet on the last formal night. Even if I didn't partake, I'd go to see how beautifully it was set up.

Now we have 24-hour, standard buffets. It's not the same thing.

and how fat and stuffed I was the morning after, most especially during late seating.

I'm actually glad that Celebrity now does the 'Gourmet bites' in lieu of the midnight buffets. It give you a chance to wander the ships, go to the casino, the lounges and have really great hors d'oevres brought right to you with out sitting in the dining room or standing in line once again for something.

I give it a thumbs up! at least on Celebrity. I haven't traveled anyother lines in quite a while. I am truly content with them.

bon appetit

I agree with Lisa63, it is not the same thing. In the 90s NCL and RCI had midnight buffets each night. Each elaborate in its own design, they were a feast for the eyes and tummy!

I'm sad that they've gone to the generic all you can eat mega-trough buffets of late. Does anyone know why they took the nightly buffets away?

Sailing on the Carnivale in the early 1980s there was a midnight buffet and I attended every one. Then, for the late seating folks and the party crowd, there was a 1:30 a.m. buffet that was a bit less elegant and of course, smaller in scale. Oh, for the good old days.....

I had my 10 year old very excited that he would be able to stay up to go to the Midnight Buffets on the ship....But they had None :o(

We had the Chocoholic Buffet...that was at 11:30. This was the Majesty out of Boston Oct. 2nd. Are there any ships around that still have Midnight Buffets???

Costa have them every night

Of course, back in the days (or should I say nights?!?) of nightly midnight buffets the ships didn't have all of these other alternative dining venues where you could go to get food if you were hungry. Most ships today have some place whether it is a pizzeria or whatever to find food if you are hungry. But I agree, it's not the same as the artistry and gastronomic delight of the midnight buffet. :D

On Grandeur there were 2 midnight buffets in the dining room, one chocolate (absolutely FABULOUS :p ) and the gala buffet on the last formal night (9night cruise). The other nights there was a BBQ buffet on the pool deck or strolling waiters with goodies in the clubs. I am so hoping our next cruise on Mariner has the buffets!
