Can you not preload your cruise account anymore?

It's been a while since we cruised but I always bought obc and preloaded our cruise account with about $1,000 so we didn't have to put a cc on file. I went online for our cruise next month and see they have cruise cash you can purchase now but there's a limit of $500 per cabin.

If you have your account set up as cash don't you have to have $200 or $250pp as a deposit into your account? We have 4 in our room and I was hoping to have it set up prior to getting to port like we always did. Do I have to call to have it done?

I also noticed the cruise cash says it's non refundable. Can I cash it out at the kiosk before the end of the cruise? Doubt we'll use more than a couple hundred max like we usually do. Just want to put on the money they require us to.

Carnival doesn't require a specific amount if you choose to fund your account with cash (and, no, you can't do so ahead of time, unless you purchase Cruise Cash). They will simply not allow you to charge anything until you have funded your account.

Cruise Cash is use it or lose it.

I normally fund my account with gift cards, so I have the funds already "spent" before getting on board and just apply them to my account. Anything left, I cash out using the casino trick on the last night.

On the last night of our cruises, we cash out in the Kiosk to prevent the gift card "use it of lose it" policy. So, yes, you can do that! But $500 is the max you can do cruise cash - still that's a good dent in your $1000. Just bring the rest in cash on sail away day.

You can take it out in the Kiosk. We did it last year. Took out every last cent. Then somehow the drink I had ordered earlier in the evening had not hit our account yet, so I had to go back to Guest Services on disembark morning and pay for my drink...lol

Thank you, that's what I needed to know if it would block it from the kiosk since it was non refundable OBC. Wasn't sure if I needed to "convert" it to regular OBC in the casino or not first. I will go ahead and add $500 ahead of time then.

Ok, follow up question. Can cruise cash be used for everything on board including in the casino or are there limitations? I know there are specific types for bar cash, photo, etc.

According to the website, yes:

Cruise Cash provides an immediate credit to a guest's Sail & Sign account. This credit is good for any charge made to their account including taxes and gratuity charges. Cruise Cash is valid for a single voyage and cannot be transferred to future bookings. Cruise Cash is non-refundable and any unused credits will be forfeited.

I like to have everything paid for in advance. We purchased $500 in cruise cash and $200 in bar cash. The cruise cash we could take out at the casino ANYTIME. It was good for anything, gratuity, excursions, casino, and shopping! It was perfect for us. We had $10 left over and we donated it to St Jude!

Yes, cruise cash can be used for anything, even in the casino! We do half cruise cash and half cash.

I read somewhere (and I can't remember where...) that if you have cruise cash, they apply that first to your expenditures. After you have depleted your cruise cash, then they use your money or credit card.

But regardless, use that kiosk on the last night and get your balance out in cash.

I'm trying not carry a lot of cash on me since I'm driving quite a ways down to port. I'd be much more comfortable having it applied in advance than carrying $1,000+ in cash on me until I got on board. I'll just the do the $500 they allow and call it a day. That should be more than we need anyways. I'll bring along my debit card and a cc too just in case.

Okay, I have to ask how do you manage to have a sail and sign card of only $200or $250 hundred dollars??

For us it's easy, I'm not even sure it's that high without the casinos. We don't drink alcohol. At most DH gets a couple of fancy coffees and I get couple of fancy hot chocolates. If it's a ship we haven't sailed before we will buy a ship ornament. Now that the casinos are smoking I don't really use them anymore. We may or may not buy one photo. Don't eat in the pay for places, there's so much good food to choose from we never saw a need yet. Now I do buy a couple cases of water since I can't bring it on but that's cheap, I don't drink soda so no soda cards to buy. We play a couple games of $20 bingo and that's about it. So far I've won bingo all on 3 cruises I've played it on $500, $750 and $750 (think that's what it was) so walked out with money on every one of those.
