Oct 2, 2016 Allure of the seas

Recommended Posts

We are just back from the Allure. We are both in our 50's and have been on 4 other cruises 3 of them on Royal. I am not doing a review but will try to answer questions and add the following observation,s these are just from our experience others may feel differently.

Good: The ship is beautiful. The staff was very attentive. Our room was adequate for 2 people a D3 Balcony room 14272. There was lots of storage and I thought the shower was great. The shows I saw was Mam Mia (awesome), Blue planet (more awesome), Ice games (very good),Quest Hillarious (not to be missed) Headline MOH5AIC (not very good), About a third of the audience left before the end. I do not think the problem was that they were bad but they chose the few songs they played in the 1 hour show poorly. I think they should have stuck with Motown or at least upbeat or well known songs. Unfortunately I missed Oceanaria and the comedy act. There are in room Pay per view movies that was nice. The weather was awesome without any rain. The other passengers we met on this cruise were the most polite and friendliest we have ever met.

The not so good. Our travel agent called RCI when we booked and asked RCI if the bed was close to the balcony rather than being close to the bathroom. They said yes. We arrived and bed is closest to bathroom so I was not happy. Getting into the closet with the bed so close was very annoying. The food while mostly adequate at times were inedible and I spent 1 day throwing up and my husband spent 2 days throwing up and in the bathroom. We were not alone in this. I heard there were many sick people on the ship from some of the crew. In our case It was not norovirus but food poison. So bring your kaopectate and be careful what you eat. We never ate in any specialty restaurant. We had planned to but got sick early in the cruise. The Solarium is virtually unusable it is so hot in there with poor air circulation.

Other info: The movies played at the Aqua theatre was Zootopia, Star trek Beyond ( I think), Cival war (which is either Avengers or Batman some super hero and finding Dory. They also showed Miss Penegrine home for Peculiar children in the Amber theatre in 3D. We both had the Ultimate drink package and we did not break even but again we lost 1-2 days being sick. Smoking allowed in Casino 1 side and 15th deck at sky Bar on Port side and 15th deck pool bar on Port side.

My suggestions to Royal Caribbean even though they never asked. Cool down the Solarium tint the window add industrial fans otherwise replace it with something else. Make it a policy all food is tasted before it leaves the galley. Husband took a bite into a hamburger that was virtually raw. Johnny rocket make new onion rings every 45 minutes instead of serving hard stale rings and fries. Have the Jolly Rogers (more cruising themed plus they are awesome and funny) as some of the entertainment and make the headline show a little longer. Add to the boardwalk, cotton candy, sno-cones, Get rid of the candy store and replace it with a fudge/ homemade candy shop. Have mimes/ jugglers along the boardwalk. Have one pool with either slope entry or steps. Play double feature movies after dark at the aqua theatre like at the old drive ins.

I will continue to cruise in the future because I love the feeling at being at sea and the one stop vacation. Ask any questions and I will try to answer.

For questions like this, and many others, ask here instead as you will more likely to get a correct answer.

Do you have any idea where the food poisoning came from? We will be on Allure Oct 30th and I hadn't really thought of packing medicine as we have never had any issues, but I will do that now. Hope being sick didn't ruin too much of your vacation.

I like your idea of double feature movies and perhaps even show some old drive-in movies. Have a 50s sci-fi movie, you know like with slime or giant ants, followed with the Pink Panther.

If you google "food poisoning," you'll find that different bacteria manifest at very different time periods. Some take 5 days to show up. Hepititus takes up to 28 days. And then there is the variation shown by different bodies: some never get it even though the person ate the same food; some get it sooner, some get it later. Basically, it's not possible to say where food poisoning might have originated if two people have been eating pretty much the same food for a week, so it's possible the Allure isn't to blame for your early into the cruise food poisoning. http://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/food-poisoning/basics/symptoms/con-20031705

We were on the same sailing, and the problem in the main dining room with undercooked food is one we also experienced. One of the people at our table had escargot served that were still frozen. Later in the cruise, he ordered them again: stone cold, but not frozen. I had cold crab cakes and cold baked potato served at Chops one of the two nights we were there. Based on our experience, I'd agree that the food was a weak point--and of course, it may have been the source of the opening posters' food poisoning, though it seems like a lot of people would be compaining of food poisoning if the dining room were the source.

Hubby ate something called a b 11 burger in windjammer and it was way undercooked he immediately said yuck but was too polite to spit it out like I would have.

I ate 1 bite of a potato chicken pizza in Sorento's. It tasted weird so I rudely spit it out and was only sick one evening I am more sensitive than Hubby. That being said I would go cruising with Royal again just would be super careful.

You will love the ship, breakfast seemed like it was safe and I ate a lot of watermelon and Ceaser salad and did fine with that. Hope you have a lovely cruise.

That is too bad I thought maybe I would have been safer eating in specialty restaurants.

I like your suggestions. Hope Royal sees this. Thanks for your review.

We were on the Allure the sailing right before you and it is agreed that the ship is beautiful.

We had an inside cabin with the bed close to the closet and a I'll agree that it was a pain to get clothes/shoes in/out of it each time. We had a full sized couch and the cabin was one of the largest we've ever had.

We didn't have any problems with getting sick; however, we found the MDR food was served only slightly warm, like it was sitting around for a while in the kitchen. This decreased the enjoyment of it. One night, the food did show up hot and tasted great that time.

JR food was good but not great. The onion rings/fries were fresh and hot, maybe we just lucked out with timing :).

Our headliner was ReVoiced, an acapella group that was pretty good.

Hello, we were on the same cruise as you, and we ate in both the Speciality Restaurant's and also the main Dining room on a large table of 8 and didn't hear of any problems, but with 6000 guests on board, I wouldn't be surprised by this.

I am hoping that you were responsible cruisers and informed medical services of your condition so that no cross contamination from your experience didn't affect your fellow cruisers, but saying that, I am always upset to hear of such instances when people have looked forward to their cruise to be let down

I have some comments about the large screens in the Aqua Theatre, can they get some of the Audio Visual Technicians to sort out the large pixel problems which spoilt some of the movies, your eyes are drawn to them.

Having done 29 cruises with RCCL, this was our first on Allure and Oasis class of ships, but does anyone else think some of the space is wasted.

I also agree with your comments about Mo5aic, they were truly awful, compared to the quality of Mamma Mia, such a let down.

My other comment would be sort out the elevators, they seem to have a mind of their own, and seeing empty carriages flash before your eyes was tedious.

Apart from that, I still think it was a great cruise, I congratulate my fellow cruisers for making it very memorable despite Hurricane Matthew and all the staff doing the very best to keep us safe

This is so true! I forgot to mention that in my review of sailing on Allure the same date as you. It was crazy how often that happened!
