cruiseapril Posted October 23, 2016 #1 Share Posted October 23, 2016 Hi- We are going on the Nieuw Amsterdam in March. Looking forward to our Eastern itinerary: Grand Turk, San Juan, St. Maarten, Half Moon Cay. How did you enjoy this ship? (We've been on the Westerdam and Noordam.) CruiserBruce Posted October 23, 2016 #2 Share Posted October 23, 2016 There are MANY threads here on N. Amsterdam. The ship is a newer version and upgrade of the Vista class (Westerdam and Noordam), with a new eatery (Tamarind- discussed here frequently), cabanas on both Lido and Retreat level (loved or hated here)... Just a little reading will find all sorts of info.
Krazy Kruizers Posted October 23, 2016 #3 Share Posted October 23, 2016 We have been on the Nieuw Amsterdam several times. Definitely try the Tamarind Restaurant -- Pan Asian food.

casper106 Posted October 23, 2016 #5 Share Posted October 23, 2016 We did that exact same cruise last winter. It was our first time on HAL after many on Celebrity. The staff are much warmer and helpful. I liked the smaller size of the ship and the fact that in the Lido buffet, the food was served to you on plates rather than going around and helping yourself. To me,it seems more sanitary. The silverware is already at the table so you don't have to worry that you forgot and keep running back and forth. The entertainment is pretty much the same as on any other cruise ship and the destinations are fine. In particular,we like Half Moon Cay and Grand Turk. We did select dining and just took whatever table they assigned us as it came up. We enjoyed talking to different people every night. We will definitely go back on HAL. Rare Crew News Posted October 23, 2016 #7 Share Posted October 23, 2016 We have really enjoyed the NA. Rare Scrapnana Posted October 24, 2016 #8 Share Posted October 24, 2016 She is very similar to the Vistas but with a few extras. And, of course, she is newer. I enjoyed a week on her this year to Alaska and would cruise on her again any time.
