Policy change re: kids room

I was making my final payment today and was told by my TA and NCL that NCL changed their policy in July 2016 regarding kids rooms.

Previously, if you had a connecting room you could book the kids in one room and the adults in one room (which made some promos more useful...we booked back when you could get the UBP (including the tips for free) or $200 OBC. So the adult's room had the UBP and the kid's room had the OBC (since they don't drink soda). I booked this way based on advice from my TC and NCL. But I did book almost 2 years ago.

Today I was told that the new policy doesn't allow kids to be in a connecting room, you must have an adult in both rooms. So they switched one adult and one kid around.

Just wanted to give a heads up in case anyone else had planned to sail with kids in their own/connecting room.

NCL: "Norwegian Cruise Lines policy dictates that a minor (<18 years old) or young adult (18-20 years old) under the age of 21 must be accompanied in the same stateroom by a guest 21 years of age or older at the time of boarding."

Yes....that is the new policy. Not the policy in effect when I booked. Just wanted to make sure others knew it had changed...I hadn't heard it had changed.

This is the Policy I just pulled up on NCL's site and you said you were in a connecting room which falls under what is on their website. I would bring this higher up on the food chain to have the booking reinstated to what it was previously. If you were not in connecting cabins I would have them move me for free to adjoining cabins (And reinstate the original perks) as their policy change was made way after your booking.

Traveling with Minors and Young Adults:

Norwegian Cruise Line’s policy dictates that a minor or young adult must be accompanied in the same stateroom (or connecting stateroom) by a passenger 21 years of age or older at the time of boarding.

You were advised incorrectly. Your TA should know better. The rule is very clear that a connecting cabin is the same as being in the same cabin.

  • Minors – an individual under the age of 18 on the day of embarkation/boarding.
  • Young Adult– an individual between the ages of 18 and 20.

You need to be on the phone ASAP to the TA and have this fixed, or else the TA needs to be comping the second OBC that they managed to take away. This error has cost you approximately $500.

Thank you SO much!!! I really appreciate this information! I had found something else on the NCL website that didn't clarify this about connecting cabins....and when I talked to NCL (I had to call them to fix something my TA couldn't/wouldn't?....time for a new TA!!), I explained I had connecting rooms and NCL told me their policy had changed in July and even with connecting rooms, we needed an adult in each cabin.

I called my TA today and got everything fixed. Very happy cruiser now! Thanks again!

We sail in a 3 weeks and our kids are directly across the hall in an inside. No issue at all. Final payment made, cruise docs printed ... no issues.
