Short and to the point.

Cruising in Feb...Southern Cruise

8th cruise experienced

know about in-room bottles for purchase..

know about Drink Pkg. for purchase..

my problem..

Cruising w DW, Autistic 22yr old Daughter, and 76yr old MIL

All who medically cannot drink.

in order for me to purchase the "drink pkg"

ALL must purchase it....

not happening..

called Carnival....you know the answer...

so, I will stock up on 4pks in the room I guess.

Glad Carnival is SLOWLY coming around..but...

What do my fellow cruisers think..

would you purchase the DP if it was made available..still only getting 15 max drinks....

and on port days, your not drinking 15..( I hope) :D

I end up drinking less..

They say Carnival Monitors these sites....

I agree that Cheers would be a bit better if done on an individual apx basis not per adults in cabin. With alcohol, coffee, soda, etc. no included could make the BE point a little less. But no way is a non-alcohol drinker going to run up the equivalent pp cost in sodas and coffee.

I would absolutely buy it if it was on a per-person basis. I've had it once, when DH and I were split into separate rooms (me w/ 2 kids, him w/ 1). I loved it. I may have broken even, but it would have been close. For me it was all about the freedom to order whatever I wanted, without having to worry about how much it cost, or would I like it, etc. When I had it, I was on the Magic, and I LOVED the Alchemy bar.

With that said, usually my family of 5 all stays in one room, which mean DH and I would both have to purchase. And we'll never ever do that...because he drinks free in the casino (by the first night), so we'd be throwing money away!!! I know...mine is a good problem to have!!! :D

In my opinion, if you plan on drinking...it's worth it!!! I like not having keep a $$ count or checking my sign and sail. No need to slam 15 drinks a day either to "think" you are coming out ahead!!!

So so true and it adds up quicker than you think.

Fair enough. But my BF doesn't drink at all. So, while I think it would be a wash between breaking even or being slightly ahead on the drink pCkage for me. It def won't be if you factor in the drink package for him. I understand carnivals reasoning, but people that are going to share will share. Even if it's having 2 rooms and 1 rooms gets it everyone or mom that gets the soda package for one and everyone drinks off it. Carnival could get $50 extra per day from me w the drink package and instead gets $50 for the week cause I will mostly drink in port and buy very few of their overpriced drinks a la carte. Or worse, they are losing my cruise fare to NCL and celebrity now since they include the drink package in your booking.

It's always worth asking at guest services when you get on board. A few years ago the head food and beverage officer on the Conquest made an exception and sold Cheers for just me without charging for my obviously pregnant wife.

You need to book your cruises on the cruise line that works best and provides the best value for you and your family. If that's NCL or CEL then do it. I've been on X, NCL and CCL numerous times and never had a bad cruise on either.

Carnival will deal with it's lost business from you just fine and will continue to offer Cheers in it's current "everyone in the cabin / 15 day limit" format as it seems to blend best with it's business model and pricing structure and has served it's other 3.5 million annual customers well enough in the past 5 years.

The sharing is bad enough now, it would be even worse if they changed the rules. If you do the math and cheers doesn't work for you just pay as you go and save money.

This...lets face it a lot of people out there cannot wait to buck the system, look how many STILL smuggle on liquor and look for new ways to do it!

OP: if you want to drink, just drink, still cheaper than all of your having to purchase DP. It is really your only option.
