Getaway 12/4 - 12/11 Speed Picture Review

We met up for dinner and decided to go to Shanghai's for the last night. We got there about 5:15 and there was already a line. It was ok though, because I had brought something to pass the time.

I still wasn't feeling up to too much solid food so I got the chicken with glass noodles which really hit the spot. We also had the best waiter from when we were first there and I made sure to get his name so we could fill out hero cards for him.

After dinner Opfor went to go see about getting into some shows and I kicked around waiting for karaoke to start. And picked up another ginger mojito.

They had Lagunitas! Do you remember where you got it? My hopes had been dashed for any good beer on the ship.

Several bars have them. The Atrium bar, the Sunset Bar, and I'm pretty sure I saw them in the casino bar. O'Sheehans does not I can tell you that.

Thanks for your review - I really enjoyed it. Right now, we are trying to decide between the Getaway and the Oasis of the Seas for our March Break cruise.

The itinerary and waterslides on the Getaway appeal to me but the Oasis-class ships are apparently second to none. Is the main pool area on the Getaway as small as many people claim?

Oh yeah, it is mighty small. There is the adult pool and then the kids pool and both are small for the amount of people. Hold on let me see if I have a pic from my previous review.

Yeah this is the main pool and it's about 8' deep.

The kid's pool is a little smaller and 4' deep and that is all you have for pools that are accessible by everyone.

Sorry to stick my nose in but I've been on the Oasis as well as the Escape, which is close to the Getaway. Both cruises were on spring break so the crowds were comparable.

The Oasis is a stunningly beautiful ship, the balcony rooms are a bit bigger than the Escape (as well as the actual balcony), and the pool and pool deck I thought were a much better size for the number of people on the ship. I loved the hot tubs that are right by the edge of the ship and they never were really crowded. I felt more inclined to dress up for dinner on the Oasis even though we did the anytime dining (or whatever it was called!). The food was good, we don't do shows.

The Escape was a great ship, so much fun stuff to do on board, and the food in the specialty restaurants was fantastic. The pool is really small for the number of passengers, but it was fine for a quick dip when we got hot. Getting a chair on the pool deck after 9:00 am seemed harder on the Escape. It felt overall more casual than the Oasis.

I really want to cruise again on one of the Oasis class ships, but we booked our next cruise on the Getaway in March. With teenagers we just couldn't turn away from the ropes course and slides. Plus we like the Getaway's itinerary.

I don't think you could go wrong with either ship! [emoji4]

The loungers were just like the blue ones on the ship and there honestly was not much shade on the beach where they were. But the view was great and the water was perfect. I got my snorkel equipment rental and headed off down the beach towards Infinity to see if I could get through the "kidney" area and past the reef. It was actually pretty easy and they had a couple of buoys near the entry so people could find it. I do not have any pictures from the reef since I was taking video and forgot to set it to take pictures but I don't have my video edited yet either. It was an experience, though, and I really wish I had been 100% so that I could have stayed out there a little longer than I did and see the drop off.

The bad part about this beach? The vendors were relentless. Most would accept a "no, thank you" but there were some who would just keep pressing. Really annoying. However when you were back on the resort grounds where the restaurants and seating were they did not get up there to bother you.

We had lunch here sharing a mango and goat cheese pizza and a pulled pork wrap with a few of the local beers. It was really good and not too much money.

The resort grounds were nicely maintained and they had some cute looking bungalows for rent.

We stayed a little longer swimming and walking around and then headed back so that Opfor could get some souvenirs. Another take-your-life-in-your-hands ride later and we were back in port.

Which beach/island is this?

Great review. Thank you.

Are you a transplant from Michigan to Las Vegas? Just wondering because of your remark about the potholes in Roatan being as bad as those on Michigan freeways. Made me laugh out loud.

Would it be possible for you to post the Freestyle Dailies? Thanks so much.

Thanks so much for the review. We are on the Getaway at the end of February.

Question for you about Havana 1957 -- how were the crowds when you were there? We are considering going on Saturday night pre-cruise, but we weren't sure how crazy it would be.

Now the first thing I wanted to do was to hit Le Bistro and see if I could change the 9pm reservation I had for the 2nd night to something earlier.

^What is the best way to get a reservation for Le Bistro upon boarding the ship? Will somebody be at Le Bistro even though it isn't open? Guest services? Using the phone reservation number? Thank you in advance for your feedback!

I am indeed. Unfortunately I do not have the dailies, my friend took them as souvenirs.

On Saturday night we got there around 9:30pm and it was pretty busy but they were seating people quickly and there were some empty seats outside where we were. I can't speak to earlier than that, but Friday it was pretty open when I was there at about 6pm.

So silly question, is there anywhere on the boat that still serves that food (empanadas specifically) that flamingos used to serve?

If there was, I did not find it. But we didn't do the buffet for dinner a lot so maybe they might have them there?
